Man this is such an awesome truck. I got some time to read all about it and I'm so stoked about your truck. It is killer.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

Love the story and all the pics. The one of your youngest is an absolute classic! Somewhat similar story here... My brother bought mine in Missouri in 1981 and drove it home to Connecticut. Finally convinced him to sell it to me about 9 years ago (it had been sitting in his garage for 20 years)...

All the best from another '49er...

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

Not much to report.....bustin A$$ on this garage project. Poor Henry spends most his time across town at the in-laws so he does not have to sit on the street.

Old garage

Gone

Demo

Prep

Ready to pour

The main slab is poured.....I just did not take a picture before I bolted to work.

Hey, somebody's makin off with your garage man. I THINK you can catch him though...probably even walking! Lol.

Guess I'd better go back and read what's behind this new garage build. Can I annoy you and just ask the size of the old one vs. new one? Will there be enough height to put a lift in it later?

Old was 22' deep x 24' wide, 8' sidewalls.

New will be 24' deep and 42' wide, with 10' sidewalls, plus full bonus room upstairs.

12' or 14' sidewalls would have been nice, but I could not get a permit......

Luckily my Father-in-Law has a lift just across town.

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

i was thinking the old garage wasn't bad, but a 24x42 is greater
mine is 50x50 with no room for a hoist, some days i'd kill for a hoist

Geez guys. Mine's 18 x 20 on a 50x100 lot. It's SoCal, guys.

The old owner added onto the back 6ft all the way up to the property line. Last summer I knocked out the back wall completely and replaced with a structural steel frame to be able to get my 22 ft boat in. I can't relate to the idea of spare room for ANYthing in my garage.

It's a Centurion wake board boat:

Here it is in 2011 coming out of Lake Tahoe on our way to Hot August Nights in Reno behind my 3500 4x4 crew dually.

What's "RDP"?

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

Thanks Coach. I bought the truck, my girlfriend the Lance 1181 and we jointly bought the boat off two firemen that needed to get rid of it fast, so a better deal. LOTS of weight in that rig but the Duramax pulls it with zero trouble.

Was on mine too....I wasn't exactly ready at the time - we'd save money to refinish the hardwood floors in our house...but...oh well It was the depth of the recession so a great price, firemen take very good care of their stuff and it only had 58 hours on it for being almost four years old when we got it. Man, these things drink gas though!

Re: 1949 Chevy 3600 into a daily driver

Really tough past 4 days.

Thursday and Friday I built all 4 walls and lined up all the material.

Saturday AM we lifted walls, sheeted and braced everything. We set 4 rafters and called it a day. Temps were in the 90's with high humidity. That took a toll on everybody!!

Sunday we set the rest of the rafters, sheeted a row and cross braced everything.
