Re: 72 k20 project
LMFAO! Nice work on it! Does your pan hard bracket block the axle vent, or is it going through the axle vent? While you're down there welding, do your self a favor and weld the axle tubes to the center housing. The plug welds that hold the tubes stock will shear off and the center carrier housing will rotate. I forgot to tell you this earlier.

Re: 72 k20 project
This. I twisted the ones in my Ranger because of this. The ones on the Ex are welded on the ends, and it just twists the axle shafts now, not the tubes... I dunno if that is any better, but hey, at least the links don't break off!

Re: 72 k20 project
Hi ryan. The main concern is that the holes where it bolts to the trans / T C adapter is 4 in c to c . The rest I can figure out from there. Im starting to lean towards the other Ryans comment that If I use the 90 dodge style orriginal mounts then I can get any where any time .
If you can see if any of your newer mounts are 4 in spaceing that would be a help tho. Thanks.

Re: 72 k20 project
So, there is a plan cooking away for some compound turbos. when i get the primary i will start looking at the mounting and plumbing. one of the common issues with compounds is the fresh air inlet. it is commonly smashed right up against the oil filter. which is usually a pain in the back of your front to install/uninstall anyhow. and when you high-mount the a/c compressor the stock dodge one bashes into the filter. there is of course a 400$ aftermarket relocation kit available from destroked. WOW. there is a cummins part number($$$) that is about 100 bucks less that will probably work but im not sure without doing some reading. i was talking with Mr. Wrencher(usually how ideas start that leads to the destruction of a perfectly functional part) anyhow, this is the result. i can use whatever filter i want on the other end, i haven't decided what yet, but i will probably get something that uses the GM v8 filter. there are filters available for gm v8s that hold 2 qts of oil. that is monster filter.
![]() a legitimate counter bored and faced SAE strait thread o-ring fitting boss. thats right, we are semi-pro. i dont want to talk about the ****ty weld it was impossible to clean it enough while i was so impatient. also, for those who may question, it was welded on the inside of the plate as well to seal the the clean side from the dirty. ![]() |

Re: 72 k20 project
You *may* want to reconsider your thoughts of using a GM filter on that. If the two-quart Delco PF932/Wix 51794 is the style you are thinking of, I don't think they will flow enough oil for the Cummins. The inlet thread on a Dodge Cummins is 1"-16. The inlet on the 932/51794 is 13/16-16. That's obviously 3/16" right there, but keep in mind that almost all other Cummins 6BT applications use a filter thread larger than the Dodge application. The size escapes me right now, but it is a fair bit larger. I would recommend a filter head that accepts the standard Dodge size filter (Fleetguard LF16035 for the Strato-Pore media) if for no other reason than availability. You don't want a bastard filter that you have to special order prior to doing an oil change or can't find if a tragedy occurs......TRUST ME ON THAT ONE.........
Now, if you were considering a different 2qt GM filter with a large ID, just disregard this post. ![]()

Re: 72 k20 project
So this will be your out/in? any plans for additional cooling?? While you are looking at Remote oil filters, have you looked at any industrial applications? I know that Cummins Off Road engines use several different mounts that use filters that hold 2L.

Yes. the left port in the pic is the clean entering the engine and the right is the dirty going into the filter. i hammered the part together yesterday before a memorial service and didnt get home till later so i didnt have a chance to jump in feet first with my filter research. i was thinking about looking at some backhoes or such to see if any of those had a remote mount kit that i could snatch. no plans for cooling outside of the to and from lines. i am not terribly concerned with oil temp. the engine doesnt make that much heat, and holds a buttload of oil, so it should be fine. if i have the space i may add a single pass cooler inline just for some self assurance though. |

Re: 72 k20 project
So, the rubber mount is still bolted to a trans. the best measurements i could get are rough, but the top two bolts are something like 7 5/8" and the bottoms are like 4 3/4"
the bolts that hold the mount plate to the nv4500 are 4" these are the holes in the tailhousing. in the 2nd gens there is a stamped plat that bolts to the tail housing and the rubber mount bolts to that. |

Re: 72 k20 project
Getting the picture in the morning! But I already have a quote and think my name is on it already haha. Before I could run twins tho I need to have a rebuilt engine and dont have that money and cant justify spending all that money right now and have this project take two more years.
