That sounds great! I bet she is gunna get with it once you have the tune all dialed in. Was it hard to setup the TV cable on the LS motor / carb combo?

It gets donw pretty good now. I got the rev limiter at 4 and it gets there a hell of a lot faster then my old 350 ever dreamed of. Dont have to use as much throttle to keep up with traffic any more. On the tv i had this carb and bracket set up on old motor so i have not adjusted a thing. Shifts just as it did on old motor. Early in first and normal on rest of gears. Was never able to figure that one out. It may not be early as i dont have my tach yet. But only get to about 25 mph in first.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Thanks man.

I got more time to play today. I extended my fuel line from reg to carb. Does not have any kinks in it any more. Put #2 timing pill in msd box and drove him to storage with wife and kid. She is deff mine. Everytime i get on throttle she gets sucked up in back of her seat and her simile goes from ear to ear and yells do it again do it again. Think wife likes it too. Seems to run great with #2 pill. I am going to leave it alone tell i get my wideband O2 sensor in.

What ya waitin for go get er done....I know the feeling. I had this thing stuck in a storage building for almost a year. All that planing and i still had to buy a ton of stuff over the install week end to get it in right. But i did do it in 2 days. And the second one i was sick. If a guy started early in the day and had all stuff worked out it could be done in 1 day. If i didnt spend 2 hours jaking with stupid headers mine could have at least ran friday night.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I've got half the parts bought for mine. Still need a harness, tune and fuel system. I plan on buying those next week. I may be able to start at the end of the month. I'm gonna drop it in place, but let my shop handle the fuel system and wiring. We'll see what happens.

That is about how mine went. Got one part then wait, then next part, then next, tell i was pretty sure i had everthing. Then when i was putting it in i relized what else i needed. Ended up being quite a bit.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Well folks we have a problem. After i have drivin truck a while it smokes out the driver side exhaust pipe. But if i let it idle for a while it clears up. It mostly does it about half way home if i sit at stop light i can see it coming out my pipe. Then when i take off again it kind of fades out but when i got home after doing about 65 mph then going strait to idle it was smoking pretty bad. Then after checking mail and idleing to my spot it was just bearly smoking. If i cold start it in the moring there is no trace of smoke. It does spit water out exhaust when it is cold. Equal on both sides. Only when cold tho. Seems like normal amount of water to me. What could it possibly be? PCV valve is on that side but goes to the carb maniflod port. Could it be a valve stem seal? It does not make any noise that it should not make. No squeking or rattle or knocking. I am not happy at all about this. Hope it is somehow my pcv or something stupid like that. Any ideas?

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

you don't have the passenger side valve cover vented to anything do you? I would try hooking that up to some vacuum, at the filter if possible, if not try and filter it (like a breather/catch can) before tapping manifold vacuum.
Otherwise....it could be valve seals (and guides) but valve seals are usually more of a startup problem. Check all the plugs on that side and see if ones oily wet or black.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I have the pcv valve on the driver side going to the pcv connection on the carb and the fresh air side is just sitting there. I was going to put it in my filter base but have not had chance. I knew i should have replaced them when i had springs off. But i have never known stem seals to make it smoke when driving but not when starting. I really hope it is the pcv.....

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

I'm surprised your setup came w/o them. When I swapped my cam the spring setup I bought was with new titanium retainers and keepers..plus it had new seals (viton?) which I also installed.

these motors can consume quite a bit of oil if the crankcase ventilation isn't up to par. I think they like neg. vacuum in the engine?

If i hold my finger over the fresh air side it does not suck. Should it be sucking? It mostly just seeps tiny bits of water droplets out.

Re: 85 burb meets 6.0 lq4

Well i found out what cylinder is causing the smoke it is #1. All other 3 on that bank looked brand new. Dry and white. That is amazing because of the rich exhaust smell it makes. But that is why i ordered a O2 sensor thing. Hope to replace valve seal this weekend and if it fixes the prob i will do all of them. Now that i think of it that may be the reason my vaccum gauge moves 2 notches when it is running. Really am hoping to not have to do any major work to this thing.
