Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
The latest thing I have been doing is the rear wheel tubs. I just wanted to do something that was different. It is different but not original I have seen it on a three different trucks over the years. Two were ADVANCE DESIGN trucks and one is a TASK FORCE truck. Here are some pictures of what I came up with.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
The fender I used was an older original fender that was in pretty bad shape. I bought a used fender that was in better shape then the original and used that as a replacement while using my old one as a wheel tub. Now I was still short one fender to make my second wheel tube. I went to the Truck/Car Shop in Orange County in the city of Orange and purchased a new fender. For those of you looking for a high quality part you will want to do some home work. The fender I bought (COUNTERPART AUTOMOTIVE Parts) to cut up and turn into a wheel tub is a thinner gauge metal kind of a little bit on the flimsy side. Dynacorn is a better product, cost a little more but for full on replacement side fenders or doors you can't do much better.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
One pretty cool truck you're building!
I love the way you come up with some nice little tricks to make it stand out from the rest. I wish I had your skills....

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Those look awesome. I was literally just reading another posting where someone was asking about wheel tubs and thought of the Heisenberg truck that Delmo built, but thought why not cut the fender down to just fit the wheel opening rather then waste the space with a whole fender.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Thank you Kim57, lowrodderchev, ChuckDriver, RockinKees. Before I put the pieces back together I was starting to think maybe this isn't gonna come out like I expected. Sometimes the ideas in your head don't look as nice when you actually put it together. But I'm happy with it. Now I gotta see if my ideas for the bed are going to work.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Switching gears here now. A good friend of mine & Kabwe's http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?t=440079/ So Donnie suprised us and made me a little sad at the same time when he sold his, clean Mean '55 Chevy Belair pictured below. The sad part was , lol he bought a '73 Porsche 914 which he's going to install a LS1.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
So like I was saying Donnie sold his '55 BELAIR and got bit by a strange creative bug and decides to run out and buy a LS1 engine and stick it in a '73 Porsche 914. But then Kabwe gives me a call and sez Donnie also bought a '57 Chevy long bed and a Jaguar XJ6 as a donor car coz he's gonna use the suspension on the truck. So I grab my camera and pay Donnie a visit.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
That's a very nice '55!!
You think the LS1 fits the Porsche? Does Donnie has a buildthread also? I too going with Jaguar IFS and IRS, good to see somebody is taking the same route ;-)

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
No Donnie doesn't have a build thread but I guess between Kabwe and myself we will post photos of his build. Now I do not know much of anything about Jag clips and suspensions. As far as the rear Jag set up is concerned Donnie is not going to buy the conventional kit I guess a lot of people use he is going to adapt the whole rear unit and incorporate it into the frame of the truck. Also ride height is very important to Donnie he wants to get the truck as low as his Belair without air bags. The Belair was not on bags and the car road smooth. Donnie explaining how he is going to install it on his truck and turn the truck from a long bed into a short bed.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Ok, thanks!
I'll keep an eye on you two then I'm not going buy the conventional stuff either. I too want to get low, the rockers about 5 or 6 inch off the ground, any lower isn't possible overhere in Holland, we have those speedbumps every 5 feet.... I have the same axles, only XJ 12. Front can be welded right on to the framerails, very low then. For the rear, take the cage off and make your own subframe, then you can lower as with cage.

Remember what you may see in a photo does not mean that is the final or finished product, there is a lot of mock up, fab work and fitment that has to go on. I say this coz every now and again I get a private message asking whats going on or why did you do it this way because..... blah blah blah. Be patient and you will see whats happening.

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Yeah he's already had that engine it that little bitty Porsche. Its actually a kit that works out the all the details. You just have to do do the work.lol He also has to turn the intake manifold around.
Does Donnie has a buildthread also? I too going with Jaguar IFS and IRS, good to see somebody is taking the same route ;-)[/QUOTE] Well Donnie is a I will do it myself type of guy, but I offered to help and BC Toy Box will be sure to take pics if Donnie takes me up on my offer. BAM |

Re: My Pro Street '56 GMC Pick'em Up
Mock up photos of Donnie's '57 long bed now a short bed. Keep in mind what you see in the photos with the Jag set up is only mock up. What will be different from most Jag installations is that Donnie is going to preform surgery on the rear of the frame and graft in the Jag cage assembly.
