Re: Yet another GMC build

good reason to go automatic then, haha.
the guys at work used to give me a hard time bout my boot size, 8.5w, they would say "oh, look. they make our boots in girl sizes".
those were the guys asking me to crawl into the tight spots cause they were too big. (firefighter)

Re: Yet another GMC build

I spent a whole day cutting the dash and putting in a new gauge panel because 1. The fuel gauge in my quad doesn’t work and 2. I spent a ton of money on gauges for a turbo engine so I should use them.

Re: Yet another GMC build

I bolted in the crossover and screamer pipe that I built when this was going in the c10. It fit but I realized the engine was too low. So I cut the engine mounts and raised it til it fit better. Then the exhaust manifold hit the floor and I had to scootch the engine forward about 3/4 of an inch. Rebuilt the trans mount and now having to expand the driveshaft loop from a circle to an oval so the shaft can go in.

Re: Yet another GMC build

And since the trans moved up I had to cut the floor some more. Then I needed something bigger to cover the hole. I needed a hump. A big hump. And I discovered that all one needs to do to get a hump is go online and pay for one. My wife doesn’t appreciate my sense of humor about paying for humps…anyhow, after butchering a 67-72 high hump I think I’ll be fine once it’s welded in.

Re: Yet another GMC build

Devising brackets to mount intercooler and radiator. Looks like the engine and radiator setback are roughly the same. My hoses will still fit. Yay!

Re: Yet another GMC build

Getting closer on my brackets. Really just a spacer to move the radiator out. I could put it back later if all this turbo stuff doesn’t work. I’m on a big learning curve.

Re: Yet another GMC build

Making a cover for the intercooler. Also to help direct air through the front rather than recycling hot engine bay air.

Re: Yet another GMC build

you have so much room for activities in there!

learning curve's can be frustrating when you find a way better solution to a problem 2 steps ago. don't be afraid to go back, will still be way easier now vs later. i've never driven my truck and am on the 3rd chassis design

Re: Yet another GMC build

Bought a pipe, bead rolled the ends, and welded my BOV flange on. Waiting on couplers to see if my homemade S bend will fit the other side. My coils were too close to the wheelbarrow so I’m making new brackets to scoot them farther forward. Takes forever but cheaper than custom wires or relocation brackets. Collecting AN fittings and ordered a breather tank. Just can’t decide whether to mount the tank on the firewall where the battery was or on the frame rail. One way is easier to drain but the other will look cleaner and keep any oily mist on the frame and not the engine bay.

Re: Yet another GMC build

if you put it on the firewall, it should be high enough to have a return line from the bottom into the pan right? self-draining!

After seeing all the condensation that came out of the catch can on my 6.0 it scares me to drain the stuff back into the crankcase.

Re: Yet another GMC build

Firewall it is. Made a bracket that uses two of the old battery tray bolt locations to mount the tank. AN hose kit on the way. My S pipe fits and the AFE filter I got fits perfect in the space but….don’t like how it will be pulling hot air right off the electric fan. I imagine under hood temps will be stupid high. Want to try and build a fiberglass air box / scoop that takes advantage of that otherwise useless giant hole in the GMC hood. Lower IATs should mean less knock and more power. Still need to relocate ac drier and coolant tank plus mounting the booster, it’s going to be packed in there.

Re: Yet another GMC build

Fat coat of epoxy and 2K high build, runs and all. At least the sandpaper scratches are filled. lol. Now I have an idea where I’m at and can start block sanding.

Re: Yet another GMC build

Forward progress. Let'er harden up and scuff'er down. Fill the low spots and smooth it all out. A few coats of high build and some elbow grease and you'll be done.
Yeah, I know. Nobody likes block sanding especially in cramped quarters with lots of corners.

Re: Yet another GMC build

Since I moved the engine back, the steering pump hit the rack. I had to buy a bracket for a narrow street rod application so had to buy a corvette pump which means I had to add an external reservoir which means I had to buy more fittings and hoses. It’s a lot like dominoes. Really expensive dominoes.

Thanks! To illustrate how out of touch I am, I don't even think I knew you sold the 48'. I think you were building that truck about the same time I was going through my 56 the first time. Kind of wish I had something with more seating like a burb but my kids are pretty much grown and could give a crap about cars. Maybe I should build one anyway and pray to get auto enthusiast grandkids someday. LOL
