Picked up a center link at the junkyard for the '93. Non wearable part seems to be worn out.

Driveshaft center support bearing came out of the mount again. This time I'm gluing it to the rubber.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

I repositioned the plug wires on the '99, it was misfiring and I could see the residue from where they were arcing. I'll pick up new wires soon. I also exchanged the lifetime warranty plug wires on the '93 as it was misfiring too.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Been needing tires for the 'Burb. Friday I picked up a screw at Lowes that took it down flat while loading up cinder block... Argh! I got a closer look at that flat and decided to pull them all and install the wheels and tires off my '72, which will be sitting till spring at least. I like the look but it's temporary. Although the same size tire (285/75-16) the 8" rims cause tires to rub. I'll get the old tires off the 7" Accurides and mount the better tires. First I want to paint those wheels argent for a closer to factory look. I had them that color originally on my old '92.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Pulled the distributor from the '99 to check the gear for wear. Seemed fine. I need to find a scanner that reads CMP retard.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

I replaced all the bulbs in the gauge cluster in my '91. It was hard to see the gauges at night so after 30 years I figured it was due some new bulbs. Didn't help a dern bit!
So I replaced the old fan clutch with a new one. It no longer sounds like an airplane.

I picked up some dip switches so I can modify some VSSBs to correct my speedometer.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Desoldered the jumpers and the holes without jumpers, except for the center two that don't get changed. Soldered in the switches and set them the same as my van. Now instead of the speedometer showing 60 at 65 it now shows 66 at 65. Close enough for me, I can adjust it more later if I feel like it. And bonus, now I will get better gas mileage.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Today I learned that short bed trucks have different rear bumper brackets than long bed trucks.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Hmm. Could it be a difference between fleetside 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks? The brackets are different in the LMC catalog but don't mention short or long bed.
That's just LMC so others may offer something else.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

On the long bed the bracket has a nut welded to the forward most hole and the same size bolt as the rest of the bracket bolts. On the short bed the forward most hole is smaller with no welded nut because that smaller bolt also goes through the leaf spring hanger.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Changed the ICM on the '99. That's $100 part. Funny thing, I didn't unhook the battery when I changed it. After I started it I checked for codes and the computer said "hey, somebody unplugged the ICM."

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

The 99 is kicking my ass. The new ICM was bad, that's why I got that code. Old one back on no codes. Doesn't want to start sometimes. Sometimes runs great sometimes misses. Hard to diagnose when it's only intermittent, but it's not starting more often now. Haven't driven it in a month but try to start it every day. Fuel pressure is good, and I can smell the gas. Getting spark, checked with a timing light. Flashes while cranking while not starting. I can't remember if I inspected the plugs, I know I did on the 93, so I'm doing that next possibly again.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

Tried fixing the 99 again today. When it starts it runs good, runs normal. When it doesn't start right the engine runs backwards, yes it runs backwards. Figured that out today. I killed the starter and the battery trying to figure it out, watching the engine run backwards. I don't know what to do now. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

A fuel injected gas engine running backwards. Bout has to be timing/ecm related. Good luck with that one.

I've searched it, it has happened to others, but haven't found a solution. I can't figure out why one moment it runs great and the next it's going backwards. Shouldn't be mechanical, has to be electrical.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

I remembered you posted this in one of my threads:

{I had to ground my computer to the battery, and I had to ground the computer case to the battery.}

That is not normal so it about has to be related to your Burb's run back issue doesn't it? Bad grounds do cause strange issues at times.
Also, what was done last to the truck before that run back issue started?
Back tracking here.

Re: What did you do yo your truck today??

The added ground was my 93, the 99 is running backwards. I was working on random misfiring which makes me think it's the same problem but worse now. I changed the distributor cap and rotor, plug wires, removed the distributor and inspected the gear. The distributor is in correct, otherwise it wouldn't run perfect one second then backwards the next. No cam/crank correlation codes either, no codes at all.
