Re: A '54 named Busty
did I mention I love this simple steering column, especially this mechanical cable operated turn signal/brake switch, it's rad!
things were so simple back then and made sense, a simpler time for sure!!! |

Re: A '54 named Busty
Truth be told, I was a little horrified by the story of your trip to AutoZone. You can kind of give the kid a little break from the standpoint that people probably buy vacuum hose and chop it up into pieces. But the idea that you can hand somebody a 2 ft. piece of hose in order to get them from the 18 you cut, to the 20 that they need, is frightening in its simplicity. It reminds me of a Steven Wright joke that will lose much in not being delivered by him. It goes something like this. "I was going to the convenience store and when I walked up, the clerk was changing the sign to closed. Through the glass I yelled 'it says you're open 24 hours'. And he yelled back 'yeah, but not in a row'.

Hard to understand why the bees crammed themselves underneath that trim. Harder to imagine the alternative of someone taking that trim off, letting the bees land there, and then screwing it back down real quick. Your chassis painting looks good. And I like your efforts to mask off from overspray. When you're not shooting for perfection, clean and tidy carries the day. It looks like that rusty metal primer goes on well. I plan on using that on the floor of my truck. |

Re: A '54 named Busty
Well investigated. Good word on figuring out that it's the same formula and that you can get it for half price. I'm going for at least expensive of all and going to roll it on. I'm hoping that it gives me some added durability since it doesn't have the amount of solvents that are necessary in a spray formula. I'm going to roll it on in the back as well in lieu of a bed liner for now.

Re: A '54 named Busty
You've been making all kinds of progress on Busty / Honey (with a name like that I'm starting to wonder if I'm on the right website ;) . I like watching your resourcefulness and I'm amazed what you get away with considering that you live in a very nice neighborhood. A question. Not trying to be(e) a smart *, but why didn't you vacuum up those bees when you were vacuuming up behind the gauges? Or are we looking at pictures from two different times? I think I remember you mentioning that you got stung but I didn't realize it was 17 times. That probably would have done me in. I'm low-level allergic and it gets a little worse each time even with a single sting. 17 probably would have been my last ride. I'm excited for you to get the truck running and driving and I hope you can do it by your birthday. What is your long-term vision for the truck, its use, etc.?

Re: A '54 named Busty
Those sneaky devils were wedged behind this trim peace, difficult to see since everything on this truck is 50 shades of gray.

Re: A '54 named Busty
then I removed the weather striping from the driver side door, I also put this off for a little bit
I think only one screw came out of the base molding on this side, the rest had to be gently persuaded with the cut off wheel here I am getting all the rust off, it's looking better |

Re: A '54 named Busty
then I did my second stupid thing of this build (stripping the crank pulley bolt being the first) I started to yank out the rubber weather striping with the metal channel on the passenger side door frame - before stopping to ask for advice
then I removed the weather striping from the driver side door frame the proper way, made a huge mess, but I cleaned it up [Kenny I'm looking at your for a new used replacement weather striping channel! ha ha] |

Re: A '54 named Busty
I even yanked off the door sills on the account of them holding the very ends of the weather striping - and found them to be in good nick
thinking about stripping these down to bare metal also and going for that brushed steel look |

Re: A '54 named Busty
I stripped the driver window frame as well and clear coated both of them, not too happy how dull they turned out since I opted for the VHT Satin Clear, I should have gone with the Gloss I think

Re: A '54 named Busty
say hello to my medium friend, this 6" braided wire wheel is insane on my 4 1/2 DeWalt angle grinder, it actually separates and spreads out once it's spinning i never noticed that on the 4 1/2 version
it made quick work of that rusted ceiling, man I wish I snapped a photo before I removed all the crusty rust off of it, oh well |

Re: A '54 named Busty
I also gently removed the ol' behind the seat fuel tank straps, one side the snap washer faced to the outside so I pried it off but on the other side it faced away from the door so I just cut it off

Re: A '54 named Busty
it appears there's a big ol' rusted out hole in the driver side back corner - and you thought this truck came without Air Conditioning, ha ha

I would want some padding personally but it's your truck. If you like it then it's good.

Re: A '54 named Busty
brothers and sisters of the Hot Rodin' Kamunity I know I probably had you at angle grinder, but allow me to explain, and see if you concur
for as long as I can remember (7 vehicles plus or minus 2, ha ha) I've been promising myself a nice clean cockpit - now don't get the wrong idea, we aint talking Ridler certified where all the allen bolt heads have to be clock'ed due North or Pebble Beach golf pants and sun hats you can park on the lawn cause my car don't leak type, all I'm sayin' is no old license plates on the floor to keep you from going Flinstone style, no funny smells, no unidentifiable rattles from some phantom object behind the seat that you looked for 17 times but can't find, no bullet shells under the seat, no 37 year old McDonald's french fries, etc. etc. etc. thank you for allowing me to get this off my chest - let's see how we got here |

I'm thinking maybe not, but I do like the seat. Perfect place for a custom console!
