Thanks PE, hard to say...maybe another month or two or so. We still have lots of little things to work through.

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

We have started fitting the front sheet metal back on and are finding a few areas that need massaging.

Right off the bat, the blower belt was against the fans/radiator (first pic). My son worked on the rad support and opened it up to allow the rad to slide forward over an inch...plenty of clearance now.

We'll rework the mounts and should be good to go!

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

Got the upper/lower radiator mounts reworked and fit in...locks it in nicely. Also got the fuel regulator mounted and all the lines ran.

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

Built the PS pump mount...made a upside down cradle that captures the modified PSC pump and allowed us to move the pivot point out to where we could optimize the limited amount of adjustment space we had.

Added some material to the upper tensioner mount plate tonight and hung the reservoir off of that also...

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

We made some down bars for the engine bay to help stiffen up the chassis...bolts in between the top of the frame up front and the upper corners of the firewall. Tubes come off mating plates on the inner firewall and are welded into the a-pillar/dash bar nodes.

Column to box was interesting...4 u-joints, 3 sections of shaft, and 2 stand-offs.

Re: Our "What are we going to do?" 66 Suburban Build

We've been putting this next step off, but decided to jump into it tonight.

Cutting the hood!

My son picked up a spare hood for a practice cut/fit...we laid out a basic rectangular hole that looked like it should clear...and it did, but not exactly what we wanted.

That allowed us to gain some confidence in our technique and pattern before cutting the original hood.

Thanks PE, we're only going with a couple hundred on the nos, but overall, we'll have twice the power we did before.

We ran a few pieces into powder coating...all were done in an HPC polished ceramic. The down tubes needed to be more heat resistant since they were so close to the headers, and we just wanted the other parts to match.

Thanks y'all!

This engine is going to make a lot of heat, so we applied heat shield to each side of the lower firewall behind the headers...that combined with the extreme HPC coating on the headers will hopefully keep the floors from cooking!

The front end pics show the other pieces we had ceramic powder coated to match the down tubes...front end is going back together for good now.
