I say do it like Cheby's if you want the detail of the inner body line.

VA's idea is pretty slick too.

I think i'll do mine like NACHO truck. looks like delmo just unbolted everything and reinstalled the floor 10" or so higher. Im sure its more complicated than typing that though.

The way I want to do it is so the upper body line is eliminated since the tub will extend above that. Thanks for the replies. Something to think about today at the day job. Rather be working on the truck!

If you can create new panels, as well as simulate the stock lines why not makes them follow the wheel tub. That will give you the strength in the panel and look correct too.

Nice. Can you lay out how you did it? Do you have a shear, brake, etc? Is there somewhere we can go to see more demos on metal fab like you are doing?

Got my rear wheel wells finished(tacked) this past weekend. For the top part where metal had to be added, I used a pair of original wheel tubs that I had. With a little massaging, the front part where the body line is fit really nice, however the rear 90 degree bend was too tight of a radius so I had to make a new piece for that area. Come out pretty good for bending metal in a vise with a hammer!



Dont look at those corners where I blew through with the welder!

I've had this same thought. Kindof a combination of yours and VA's. Would be simple enough to roll in a body line, break a flange for the floor, and provide a little room for wider meatss. Go for it and show is how it's done...

Haul all different kinds of stuff around the northeast. I always cut thru near johnstown when coming home from vt. Ill actually be at walmart dc by you tomorrow morning lol.

One of my many indecisions. Probably either gold/white or an olive green/white. At first I was dead set on a white roof, but I am going to install the lower body trim, and I think the white below it looks nice without the white roof.

I started my inner bed panels. I decided to rework the existing ones rather than try to make new. I thought getting the recessed stepped body lines just right would be near impossible...for me anyway. So with a little thought, I came up with the idea of cutting the ends of the panels off and flipping them. (you will see what I mean in the pics) This is all in an effort to keep the body lines flowing with the wheel tubs.

First thing to do was to adjust the arch in the bedside to the new shorter wheel tub. Here is a scribe line where I made my first incision!


And piece removed


Heres the beginnings of the new piece going in. I put a bead roll in it to aid in the part that will be rolled at the edge. I will cut down the middle of the bead roll and hammer it over.


Here it is cut


and with nuts welded to the backside to bolt to the wheel tub


and tacked in place. at this point, I removed part of the panel(the part that I need) from the bedside so that I can get a dolly behind the panel better.


Here is the part at the end of the panel that will be cut off.

This is the only piece I really needed tacked in place


And the rest a new piece of metal.

Next I have to do the other end of the panel, then bring the whole panel to someone with an 8 foot break to make the flange on the top so it can be spot welding in just like it came from the factory.
