Looks good, but I think if you're going with the standard trim and those wheels it would look better overall chrome. On the other hand if you painted grill trim and other pieces to match the bumper and went with some steel wheels painted to match it'd work. Course that's just my opinion. Keep up the good work!

Looks great man, I actually ran across a post you made about widening the tailgate and bed in another thread and figured I would try and find your thread to comment in.I hope you dont mind the Hijack.

I'm kicking around the idea of widening my 63 long bed stepside to wide dually width where the step fenders are basically past the cab width entirely like stock dually pickups normally are, I wouldnt feel too bad cutting it up since the head board and floor are completely rotted out and the tailgate is missing but cant decide if I want dual wheels or not. Either SRW or DRW it will be on a 1994 ram 2500 4x4 frame and axles with LS power.

Here is what it looked like when PO bought it then one of it when I got it.

Man I don't mind at all. I think the whole idea of "Hijack" is B.S. I come on here to talk to other like minded folks. Don't care if we meet and chat from my thread, your thread, other thread. I thought that was the whole reason we all came on here. I guess some only come on the "talk about their project"? Not me.
As to your build. Sounds cool enough to me. I would def. look at making it a dually if that's what you want. I considered making Homer a single wheel truck and thought that would remove part of his soul or part of his cool factor.
It would be really easy to get a complete metal bed floor from a fleetside that has the inner wheelhouse tubs in place. Narrow the bed floor so the tubs inner clears your inner tire by an inch or so, and weld her up. Header panel is super easy to extend by grafting on sections on either side, tailgate is another story. It would be way easier to get two good tailgates and slice them so you use one left side and one right side as long as you are not hung up on using the letters. My tailgate now reads CHEVIVROLET.
Keep me posted on your progress or decision on which way you go with your truck. I am def. interested.

I like the dark bumper if thats going to be a color you use other places to accent the truck.

As for the tailgate I was going to either buy the cheapie plain repo ones that dont have any writing on them or build one from scratch. Either way I would then use a second set of grille letters on it.

If you have a gmc tailgate you can widen it without cutting into the letters.You just need two gates.

True you could cut on both sides of the M and then make two fill sections, but none of the tailgates have letters that are a match for the grille lettering so I plan to use a second set of them anyhow.

You could do that.but this is what i meant.I made the gate 6 inches wider.You also get a little mini gate for art or making a bench out of.

That looks really good Pat. Wish mine didn't have so many letters I would have been able to do something similar. Or if I would have had two nice gates I could have got away with one cut as opposed to two.

Thanks bro.Itll need some hammer work before i can weld it up but im shooting for this weekend.

I was thinking about your gate.If you ever decide to redoo it,you could get a gmc and a chevy gate and make one thats 6 inches wider and stilll have the Chevrolet centered.

Yeah, I thought about that. I have a lot of time into it already as is. If I ever re-did it I would put a flat piece over the letters section and drop a bowtie on it. Probably be the next owner who worries about that.

thanks man, I appreciate the feedback. the dark kinda grew on me, but not completely, so it's gone. Checking out the bumper painted body color now. If I don't like that I will have to buy a chrome one, but didn't really want to throw any bling onto Homer if I can help it. That's not what he's all about.

That looks great like that! I wish they made one with the more rounded lettering the grille uses, I had even thought briefly of changing the grille letters to the block lettering (66 only right?) but really dont want to change the look it has.

I agree with that. If I sell my Chevelle Pro-street car I will not be wanting to let old Homer go. At least not until I build a nicer truck.

Ah what year chevelle do you have? I have a 69 SS I just got done putting a year correct 396 and a T5 in.

Very cool. Let's see a pic of that bad boy. I am currently on my 8th Chevelle. Last one was a really nice 70SS red, black vinyl top stripes, current Chevelle is a 67 black, LS-2 crate motor with a Tremic T56 6 speed and a nasty cam. I have a thread on the Chevelle and my Nova in the Alternate Tinkerings section.

Reading through the thread. Nice work and awesome project. In this picture, something caught my eye. I see you have some early 60's doors. What is the story on those and are you going to use them? I am trying to find a set but they are about impossible to find good quality ones.

If up to you, I would be interested in buying them and paying the freight to get them to Houston.

I dont know man, I like novas but thats I nice chevelle to be selling.

Here is the pic of my SS. The story on it is its my first car, my mom had it and when I was born my parents sold the original motor out of it to pay the hospital. Then they moth balled the car and told me if I graduated without repeating a grade it would be mine. So when I was 14 I used my allowance/lawn mowing etc money and fixed the car up with a 396/M-21/4.88 setup then drove it off and on through high school working on it here and there when I got some money. I ended up putting a 617hp drag boat 427 in it with 4.10 gears and a TH400, but 3mpg and 93 octane started killing me when the price of gas went up so I'm ashamed to say the car has been sitting covered in the garage for past 10 years almost. I decided to start getting car back road worthy last fall and put a near stock 396 with Q-jet back in it along with a firebird WC T5, I hope to get 13 mpg or so out of it and will be putting it back on the rd this spring.

Doors not for sale. I have a rust free 63 short bed fleet side truck waiting it's turn. I do have a couple guys near me that do sell parts. PM me if you want and I will give you their info.

Very cool story on the Chevelle. I love it. As to my Chevelle, I have had quite a few (8 to be exact) and I love em for a while, then not as much. I still love my 67 but kinda get bored especially when I want to roll onto something else. Kind of a flaw in my character I guess. Oh well, it is what it is.
