Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I decided to go with a CPP tank since they were on sale on ebay with free shipping. I need the feed and return bungs anyway, so no time like the present. The welds on this thing are unbelievably perfect. Great quality. The tank is just sitting on top of the rails in the pic but it will have to go lower. To get it to fit as high as possible I'm going to put a piece of 1" square tube on top of the bottom rail and the tank will sit on top of that. I'll have pics of it mounted next week.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

What are you going to do with the bed supports? Maybe this was in a previous installment.

Welcome to the projects and builds section!!

Thanks. The 5 speed should be on the way shortly. I'll have pics when it gets here.

Bed supports are going to clear just fine. It's the filler thats the problem. I would just leave the tank where it is in the pics if the filler had enough room to connect with the outlet on the tank. The rubber hose between them will be short and the pipe inside will almost be butted up against eachother. I'll move it down a few inches and still have plenty of ground clearance.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

Thanks Alan. It's really the $ that's been holding me back. I just spent a ton and when I look down the road I still need a wiring harness, engine harness, PCM, fuel system minus the tank, clutch, hydraulic throwout/slave.......it goes on and on. There's another couple grand and it won't even be painted yet. I'm glad I never set a budget on this build.

I'll be getting at least 20 miles to the gallon if I keep my foot out of it, so hopefully the fuel injection will pay for itself over the next few years. We'll see about that "foot out of it" part.

Will the spending ever end? I keep thinking the major items are paid for, but I'm wrong. Hang in there.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

My wife has a budget for the truck. Not me. But when it comes to buying a new washer & dryer that we didn't need, there is no budget.

Its crazy how the money snowballs and how quickly things change. Finances are going good one day, bought a cool motor, then bang big shift, and suddenly the truck hits the back burner again. Keep plugging along, that motor and trans are major steps forward.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

Everything has been checked off the parts list and all I need now is the time. It will probably be a few weeks but I've started cleaning stuff and pre-lubing and bagging the valve train.

Got all of the fittings on the tank and installed the sending unit. Not much but at least it's something.

Thanks. I wish the welds were mine. Those belong to the guys down at CPP. All I did was install the sender which was the easy part.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I got the tank mounted yesterday on some 1" square tube. I recessed the filler cap in some scrap 3/4" mdf to check the level of the tank and where the filler sits. They're butted up against each other so I may have to trim the bottom of the filler a little. When I was airing up the the front bags I heard a pop and the truck moved a little. When I looked under the driver's side I saw a broken sway bar end link. Apparently I forgot to grease the urethane mounts on the sway bar before tightening them up and the pressure busted the end link in half. Lesson learned.

Re: Shrunken66Stroker's build thread.

I got a smokin deal on a brand new LS7 clutch, pressure plate and flywheel so I picked it up. I also got my bell housing from Keisler. The next box that arrives will have a 5 speed in it.
