Re: What did you do to your truck today part IV

Now that Spring is close, I hope! I ordered a 63 and 64 Shop Manual so I can have a visual back up. Time to bust butt and get the 64 street ready again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part IV

My wife has been working on the paint, I installed the hitch, brake controller, trailer plug, LED taillights and cut a piece of diamond plate for the rear license plate.

Love that green truck!

We have a new Old Man on our ranch. The boss added a '58 One-Ton flatbed. Top speed, fifty going down hill with a stiff tailwind. I wonder how difficult it would be to put a V8 in this thing?

Re: What did you do to your truck today part IV

I got my speedometer working! The set screw came out in the elec/mech converter box that grabs the inner cable. I'm really enjoying the simplicity of this model ('63). I watched a youtube on removing the cluster on a 64 and it seems a lot more complicated since all the switches mount thru the cluster.

I also got my retro radio system installed with exception to the antenna. I couldn't find the cable hole into the cable and the antenna wouldn't fit anyway. Guess what I have to order today?

My 'ol frame is a little sore from a couple days of truck yoga

Re: What did you do to your truck today part IV

I finally hooked up my speedo last week as well, I still need an adaptor because the speedo is off by 12-13 mpg (truck shows slower than real speed). I have to do the tire/pumpkin calculation and order one. I had to get the truck lifted up so I could connect the cable. No way to bend my arm the way it needed while the truck was on the ground, without breaking something .

Hey i like those speaker enclosures. Do you have more detail about how you made them? What did you do to seal them from the backside? Thanks

Re: What did you do to your truck today part IV

Got the power steering pump and all pulleys and belts installed for my power steering conversion. It seems that the pump pulley is slightly out of alignment though. Do you guys think this will be a problem? Not sure exactly how to get it perfect.

Yes I think it will be a problem. At best it will cause the belt to wear out fast at worst it will throw the belt. I don't know how your pump bracket bolts on but you might be able to add spacers between the pump and the bracket or you can put a spacer between the alternator bracket and the block but then you will have to get a spacer to push out the pulley on the water pump.

I made a bracket for my fuse box and my fan temp controller and got them mounted. I'm ready for the fun to begin

I was thinking it was as well. Weird because everything else lines up mint. The top bracket that bolts to block is pretty substantial, not sure how I can tweak that enough to get it where it needs to be. I do have another “adjustment” bracket that has more of an offset on it. Gonna try that first. Thx for the input.

Heavymetl

I had to add Shims (washers) to my power steering bracket to get it to line perfectly. The guys at the parts store said that was very common when you modify things.

Thank you Mac. I will be trying that in the very near future. Today I got the old steering box out, and new one drilled and mounted. Big shoutout to Capnfab for making an amazing bracket. Thing is perfectly precise in alignment with power steering box and template worked flawlessly.

Way cool brackets. Would you be interested in making and selling a fuse box bracket? PM me if you are.

Front clip off in order to tidy some things up before the engine goes back in..

Knew it was a solid truck, but great to see just how clean it really is!

Always annoyed me how the PO shot a load of black paint around the windshield and under the hood, so I've started rubbing it back wherever I can. Long, slow, painful process..

Looking better already..

I installed my speakers today. I was going you try and get some interior quotes this week but instead I need to figure out why my truck won’t start when it is hot.
