Yeah, I use the water to see the lights and sway back and forth to make sure the lights reflect right. As a body man friend says, you don't want to break the light. I usually sand in at least 2 different directions with 400.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

been sanding away, now I have the cab in for sanding, this is the last thing I have to do. It's going to take a while with all the edges and nooks.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

After I finish the cab I am going to clean the shop. I think I have about 30 pounds of sanding dust to try to get out.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

Had to stop work to do farm work. Got everything planted then rain. Got stuff sprayed then rain. Got stuff sprayed again then rain. Some flooding, had to repair my driveway but that's all good now. Corn fields have some bare spots from standing water but so it goes. My wife snuck out and took a photo of me cleaning my little paint room, lol. Even tho it was fairly hot day, the damp air and water dripping from the ceiling made it cold in there, so I wore a hooded sweatshirt, lol. Before this I had cleaned the entire shop, spent 3 days cleaning the primer dust off of everything, glad when I got that job done.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

got started with the first taping cleaning etc to get ready for paint. Finally after hours of cleaning sanding and cleaning some more I pulled the trigger on the DeVilbiss.. 2010 Camaro Aqua blue metallic. Pictures do not do it justice at all. I did 3 coats of color, then 3 coats of clear. Just beautiful color.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

Did the second of 3 sprays on the cab today. How in the world can it take 8 hours to spray the dash and the behind the seat area?

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

Took the plastic off the roof as soon as dash and rear area were dry enough. I did not want that touching fresh paint for very long. It was on there about 4 hours or so. Once I get the rest of the plastic off I am going to jack the cab up about 2 feet. This way I will have the firewall and back of cab at a nicely comfortable height, and I can also spray upwards along the bottom edges all the way around. The bottom edges roll under and are hard to get to otherwise.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

I always have a few small peices ready in case I mix up a little too much paint. No waste that way. These are todays small things. Worked out well, as I was spraying the 3rd coat on the last small peice it started spitting air, lol.

Old faithful, never does a bad job. When I use this gun and my measuring cup I will probably spend 45 minutes cleaning them each time.

Progressing nicely. Always nice to see things finish painting. I use a old Devilbis 502. I have had it over 40 years. Steve

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

Thanks Jason, sadly the camera and computer do not do justice to the color at all. A guy needs to google 2010 Camaro Aqua blue metallic, there are tons of pics. It has tons of metallic so I keep swirling my gun all the time so metallic does not settle, lol.

Got started prepping for the 3rd spray. It's going to work really well up high like it is.

Looking great. Love the color and the good job you are doing. You might wind up with blue jack stands but that's not really a bad thing, I can see several shades of overspray on some of my tools that reminds me of previous paint jobs.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

Thanks 57, wow, 40 years is good. I bought mine when a body shop closed and had an auction about 26 or so years ago. I have no idea how old it is, but, it works perfectly for my occasional stuff. I don't think it's an antique or anything, it says JGA on it and Google says they are available for sale.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

Finished getting ready for the 3rd spray today. Got too late to do it today, got ready about 9:30 pm so, I'll spray tomorrow.
Spent extra time taping this up because I don't want any overspray whatsoever getting on the nice painted stuff.
I try to not have tape touch blue paint any more than a bare minimum. When I have no choice but to tape on new paint I rub the tape on my blue jeans so it is not so sticky.
The blue paper on the wall is where I test the gun when I start a new spray to be sure it's working just right.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

Got the 3rd spray done today, turned out ok. If I was to do it again I would have taped it so the B pillar was sprayed with the back of cab. there is a slight paint line when the light is right. Now that I have gotten back in the swing of things I am sure I could have done it that way without too much trouble.
Doubt anyone will ever notice it but I do. There will be a 4th spray in the future, I will spray bed liner under the floor and on the steps, that will happen after all the blue is done.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

I hear that ds, seems soooo easy for other things to take priority. I was so nervus about this, I have not sprayed in 10 years. I over thought it far too much. Right now since I've broken the ice, my switch has flipped and I'm anxious to get more sprayed, silly me.

Re: norms 55 chevy pu build

Yup, it's like riding a bike after not having a bike for years. You went from a single speed back then to something with many speeds and whizzie gadgets but, even after all that, the bike riding part is still the same. Lol.
Be carefull or one morning you'll go out to the shop and find you went a little overboard and everything is freshly sprayed. Compressor, workbench, toolbox etc. Haha
