Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Not much work done on the truck in the last 2 weeks. I did sell my long bed and bed sides to a forum member about 2 week ago. That helped clean out my side yard. only thing left is 2 doors from my 71 truck and some small parts from the suburban. The priming is almost done should be getting the cab and bed back in about week. TCI said I can return the 2 tranny's for review. they will most like repair and send them back. hopefully I can get some money back on the A904 and try the 727 one more time in my car.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I finally found my body bushing at Sky's shop 2 weeks ago. I could swore that I had picked up the box a couple months ago. My memory is fading fast. Any way I did get them figured out and mounted the radiator core support. I did not get much done last week end. Donated my old engine out of my 73 Satellite to High school they even took my lawn edger with 3.5 hp Brigg on it for the first class of the year.

Nice to hear you're making head way. That stinks about getting both transmissions back instead of them sending green backs! Keep at it!

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Hi dieselwrencher
At least I was able to send them back. I'm hoping for some money back on the 904 and fix the 727 on their dime then ship it back. they just received them yesterday according to tracking. |

That's a lot of truck to paint so I'm guessing it won't be cheap!

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I may be able to help a bit with your fund raising effort. I'm still interested in the radiator core support out of the 04 burb and potentially some other goodies if you're ok with that.

Well the next 2 months I'm stuck working swing shift again. better than not work. but this means less work on the truck. Know if I can just find that box of parts.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I thinking about cleaning the window for my truck before I put the doors back together. I have tried window cleaner and rags. but they are not as clean as I would like them. they are the OEM ones I removed. Is their a good way to clean them so they look more like new before I install them. Thanks for any help.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Try 0000 steel wool, love that stuff for bringing glass and chrome around.
You can get glass polish for light scratches that works pretty good if steel wool just isn't getting it. Gotta be careful with that stuff though you can ruin or break the glass some recommend sealing the glass once your done.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
A new razor blade works good to remove over spray, years of smoking film, and dirt build up over time. Just be care fuel to not goudge the glass. Hold the razor blade at an angle while scraping.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
This from twisted78's Goldmember" thread:
"Researched online some options and came up with CC550http://www.winsol.com/550.htm. So tonight I tried it on one area of the windshield that is pretty bad. Looks like it's going to work really well... Needless to say, I did part of the passenger side. The rest of the windshield was just cleaned and dried.. No kidding" Check out page 1 of his thread for pics. Looks like this works really well for faded/hazy glass. Not sure if that's what you're up against or not. I'll see if I can figure out how to copy and paste the thread hyperlink. Posted via Mobile Device |

Last week end I built a cart to put my parts washer and sand blasting cabinet on to free up some bench space.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Friday I stopped by Sky's shop to square up on money I owed and check out progress. He started blocking and sanding the cab. He thinks the bed will be done in 2 or 3 week then I will bring it home for some fitting to the frame I relocated 2 mounting holes and I want to make sure they work. The door gaps are looking much better after he welded some rod to them to tighten them up.

SJ is hot to day. My garage is very well insulated but it is still about 80 + degrees right now and the sun is blaring at my garage door in the afternoons. one of these days I will install and air conditioner.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I love casters everything goes on casters if possible.
Cab looks great! When it gets hot we fire up both our big a** swamp coolers 2 large ceiling fans and several portable fans. You can't hear anything (so we crank up the tunes) but it will drop the temp in the garage!
