Major props to you. You've taken on a not so easy task and made it look easy. Can't wait to see it finished.

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Well I got a lot of work in on the 4th door pretty happy with the way it came out.
I did a lot inside the door like rebuilding the hinge support area and made room for the front window channel run. And after taking the door on and off the cab about 50 times it was time to reshape it. I cut along the door and then let it overlap then cut it again. And some how I cut it crooked but it worked all the same. Then I made the upper glass run and got it all tacked together. Im skiping a lot of details it took to make this door work right but I think I officially have a fully functioning 4th door! minus the window rolling up and down but thats next on the list. |

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
This is so cool. Never seen it done with a Suburban. I used to work in a Shop back in Indy and we mostly build race cars, ProStreet Cars, and Drag cars. We did do a couple 4 Door Builds but we started with a pickup and turned it into a 4-Door using parts from Wrecked Suburban, and more pickup parts. Very Cool to see yours. We also did ours into a Dually in the back by using a Stepside outer fender, and put it on a fleetside bed. I am so looking forward to down the road doing some work on mine. Enjoy watching all the welding, and finish welding and all. Project I am working on now is all Fiberglass work.

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
Thanks guys I am super motivated to get this door done, hopefully I can make some more progress this weekend. I think it's going to take at least another 10
hours or so to get it done. Once this door is done the rest of the cab is going to be a peice of cake. I'm almost at the one year mark on this build and want to get the cab in primer by the first of the year. If I wouldn't have gone the 4th door route I'd probably be driving it by now! |

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
The NFL season is realy cutting into my truck time! Anyway I spent about 4 hours on the forth door, got most of the finish welding done around the hinge area. It was a lot of tacking and grinding still needs some finish grinding but looks good. started to work on the inner peice from the
fake door it had a lot of surface rust on the inside so I wire wheeled it then shot some primer on it. Then I trimmed it down a little so I can start to fit it. Ran out of time before I could fit it completly but I didn't want to rush so I'll save that for another day. So heres some pics. |

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
I did this part a few times. Measure once and cut twice. Wait that's not right. Good luck.

Re: Brave or crazy? crewcab build
I also cut off the nuts on the inner side of the panel because I plan on running 72 door panels. I will also have to come up with a way to add a hole to the plastic door panel for the door handle and make it look factory.
