Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

I almost forgot, I did get some more parts for this truck. Today I got some 6x9 speakers for it for Christmas, and a 67-72 chevytrucks decal and wall clock from my wife. Pretty sweet! And I will be once again changing the drive train of this truck. My bro and dad will be taking the drag car to Texas for a race in April. I can't see taking this truck apart in March to remove the engine for the corvette since the Longhorn might get painted. I'd rather put it together and keep going. Not swap another engine in and scratch it all up. With that being said and done, I'm going back to the beginning (Kind of) of this build. I'm going to use my 99 NV4500 and more than likely rebuild a 5.9 for it. Which one is unknown right now. I can go 12v but would rather go 24v just because. A 12v would be cheaper so IDK yet. I did get a ValAir DD clutch last weekend for it. I ordered a hardened big input kit and a cast tail housing for the NV4500 Friday. I have to fix 3rd gear in the trans and then it's done. Now I'm debating using my NP205 from a dodge or just using a 241DHD or DLD. The 241 has a lower low side and is stronger for what I may do with the truck. The only real hard part will be modifying it to be a RH drop instead of a LH drop. We shall see.

I can say one thing for sure, I'm getting really tired of looking at the parts mess I have for this truck. It's every where..........................................

Sounds like you have a plan for the drivetrain. You better get it installed before you change your mind again. Looking forward to some pics. You can't just talk about cool parts on here you know that

When they show up he will probably have pics and then have to find a place to store it til the trucks out of the body shop and whichever engine is put together for it...

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

No progress but I did land a floor shift column. We cleared the shop of parts for this truck to be able to try and use the south bay of our shop again. Here's some wall art for now.

hey diesel, you wouldn't happen to have a spare 5.9 and an autotransmission laying around or at least a recommendation do you? just tossing around the idea for my truck. i still have my 396 but haven't rebuilt it yet. would be nice to get close to 20mpg.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

You'd have to buy an adapter plate to bolt a TH350 behind a cummins to be able to bolt a TH350 on to it. I have some engines, and some dodge auto trannies that wouldn't require an expensive adapter plate.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

i'm alright with using a properly built dodge auto od. i just meant adapting the chevy np205 to the dodge transmission. I wouldn't mind a 5sp but don't know how the wife would like that.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

I have to thank my brother for going to on a big road trip for me to bring back the truck's new box and fuel tanks. They are super clean! Also, the body man came Saturday night and got the door latches and striker plates so he can latch the doors to start the body work. Hopefully he'll make some progress soon.

Well kind of. My plan for this frame is to use my left over parts and build a camper hauler. I'll use my old Longhorn box, my A/C cab I have laying on it's back, and piece together a front clip. Where the front suspension usually bolts on, I'm planning on installing a hitch. I'm going to build a goose neck hitch and bolt it to the front of the frame and then put my camper in the back. Under the hood will be a grill and a deep freeze. I'm planning on putting front wheels and tires on it and using them for the jack pads. Hopefully I can get it done-ish for Good guys this year.

Thanks! When I saw the PO's price reduction I jumped on it. Now to just get color on it.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

No progress. Really, no surprise huh?! I did go over to the body shop yesterday and remove the tilt from it. I have a tilt floor shift column on the way for it. I unbolted the seat for my old boss so he can get ready to start on the interior. Yeah right. Here's how it is sitting now.

Notice, no change except it's a catchall again, and it is dusty.

Here are more pics of the new to it bed and tail gate. I can't get over how nice the tail gate is. It even came with a tail gate band!

The worst part of the LH bed side I could see so far.

And here's bad inspiration for me. My old bed sitting a drw frame. When I get my crew cab done, this truck may just end up a drw too.

Where is the FO smiley??? lol IDK if I'm ready for another parts run right now.

The bed came with all the floor braces, numbered in order, tailgate, the sides, and the trim minus a very small piece of trim.
