Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

I only did it because the tire was ready to be replaced. Other wise I would have never done it. 10,000 more miles and I'll do it again. BTW, IT WAS FUN

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

I looked on goggle earth I can see that mark from space. I hope I'm doing burn outs when I'm your age. It makes me want to go get on my RM and do a burn out in my garage. I'd probably flip it and brake somthing important.

Yeah for a little bit. I'm on hold waiting for Studebaker parts. I need to keep going on anything that needs to be done on my truck. Before I put the windshield in this has to be done, along with shaving the speaker hole in the dash, and painting the inside of the cab. So stay tuned.

Burn outs help you stay young. It would have been a straighter line if the tire didn't have big bubbles in it. The last burn out I did with the last tire was straight, and even got it to continue to burn in second gear. The guys at work were blown away. They didn't think a cruiser motorcycle could do that.

YES, I wish I was 50 again. Those 35 year old girls would be possible. (Yeah RIGHT!!) Because at 50 I looked like a 35 year old. And at my age people tell me I still look 50. See I told you I was "Just a kid at heart".

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

About a Month ago I was riding down a street to get some stuff at the local Speed Shop, and a 37 Ford Coupe past going the other way. I just about sh*t in my pants. It was my old 37 that I sold over 15 years ago when I lived in Simi Valley, which is over 125 miles away. I sold it to a guy that lived in LA some were. Well I had to make a big U turn and talk to the guy. Turns out he just bought it from the guy I sold it to 15 years ago, and he lives here in Victor Valley. We both were blown away that we even met. He said he was looking for the front license plate and the owner said it was under the seat some were. He said it wasn't there. I said of course it's not there. I HAVE IT. I said if he came over to the shop he could have it. I never had pictures of it with a digital camera because they didn't have them back then.
He stopped buy today, and got some pictures, and gave him his "37 STEEL" personalized plate. We still can't believe that we met each other. Maybe I'll get some jobs from him. He started a new club up here, and he's the President.
Man this car is sweet. I still love it. But not as much as I miss my Belair.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

Thanks Mac
OK back to work.

I spot welded a little at a time so it won't warp the sheet metal.

I keeped closing in the gaps, let it cool, and do it again. This took me over 3 hours.

Then I ground down the welds to shape the flare. I went back a few times to spot weld in the missed spots, and ground again.

Nice work on the flare. I can see what it looks like now. I use to think 50 was old. It's funny how even old people think there still young. I wonder if anyone really thinks "Damn I'm old". All I know is time is running out. I can think back to when I was 20 seems like yesterday that was 30 years ago. In 30 years I'll be 80. But I'll look 75. I got 30 years left. Kinda pisses me off.

Dennis, I like the work your doing on the drip rail. Since your doing that, what are you going to do with the drip rail that runs down the A pillar? I removed mine since there was some rust under it. It is only help on with a few spot welds. It would smooth out the transition from the windshield to the door.

Frame looks good, too bad you had to do the paint twice...

Cool that you met the new owner of your old car. That car is nice, amazing that it is still the same as it was 15 years ago.

You think your pissed off. My dad died at 80. That's only 15 years away. And I do think "Damn I'm really old" but don't feel or think like it. A lot of my friends are almost as young as my son, and daughter. Old people always ask me "But why do you want to do THAT?" I say because it's Kool, and that's what I want. They don't understand. My goal is to live the best I can for another 35 years.

Cool that you met the new owner of your old car. That car is nice, amazing that it is still the same as it was 15 years ago.
Thanks Aggie. Not decided what I want to do with that drip rail. I thought of doing the same thing as the roof, but I don't think it will flow right. I might just take it off.

As far as painting the frame twice, It wasn't that bad. It took 2 rattle cans, and not that much time. I have been putting the frame parts back on, and rattle can paint stuck really good and doesn't scratch very easy with POR-15 as a base.
