Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
Here's a shot cruising on the road trip (notice speedo) waiting for the trucks to get out of the way and another one at a rest stop by Mt. Shasta Was a fun road trip that I'm sure I'll do again! I even got pulled over by the MAN (a CHP) coming off the mountain into Redding! He said he pulled me over because it seemed a bit "loud" as he was following me. I think he just wanted to check it it out because he asked "car guy" questions and was flipping out on the interior! He told me to be careful (no ticket OR warning!) and I took off and came home with no problems! Fun 2500 mile trip...

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
I've gotten stopped in my 64 Chevelle a couple of times because the cop was bored or interested in the car too.

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
Off subject of the truck, but I had to share this! I showed in an earlier post that I had been working at Carsland in Disneyland, but I didn't share everything. I've known Chip since '93 and was honored when I got the call to help with the project! On my first day to stripe, I showed up with my old trusty and a bit beat up paint box that I'd owned for close to 30 yrs. I was kind of embarrassed being I knew the other 2 stripers (Dennis and Jeff) would show up with way newer setups and here I was with old faithful! I wasn't there an hour and the comments started, but quite the opposite from what I expected. The Imagineering people were going nuts and EVERYONE was taking pictures of the dumb thing! When John Lassiter (who directed Cars, Toy Story and others) told me he had to have it in the Racers ride, I knew it was over. I knew they wanted to buy it, but the biggest thing was now it's in the coolest museum ever!! I made some Ramone paint cans and added my crown (King, baby!) for Ramones name to go over and they grabbed a bunch of leftover paint cups from the store stuff to finish off the display. When you come out of the paint booth (I did a bunch of striping in there) it's sitting on the floor just to the right of the car ride. Pretty much made my year! So now I just say my OTHER paint box is at Disneyland!!!

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
That is way cool. All of my carpentry tool boxes are very vintage, passed down from previous generations. Every signigicant building I have been involved with has a bottle with my business card and a note on my involvement hidden in a wall for someone to find in the future. When I did some remodeling on my Dad's house last year I found his "makers mark" behind the medicine cabinet from the 50's when he remodeled the place. I like doing historic building work because we always find cool things. On new buildings the crews think the masonry block is for disposal of beer and pop bottles.

Who would've thought you could make a toolbox look cool?
Well done.

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
Ordinarily I am kinda anal retentive about trying to keep things all organized, clean and neat, and in its way your box is absolutely PERFECT! (Obviously or it wouldn't be at Disneyland!) So its on my PC as wallpaper now.
I SO wish I'd taken up striping as a teenager when a buddy of mine did. I'm 57 now and I wish I could still learn but seeing stuff like you do, mine would never satisfy me. |

P.S. Thanks for writing "masonry" blocks. So many people say cinder block and NO ONE uses "cinder" block anymore or really ever in the West. Cinder block was made in part from industrial waste. |

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
New addition to the truck! I know this goes against the whole "low buck" thing but I couldn't turn them down! My friend Roger builds custom shocks (did Aldans for close to 20 yrs.) and makes them for So Cal, Pete &Jakes, etc. at his company ROMIC SHOCKS and commented he needed to make some for the truck. I told him I wasn't going to go that crazy on that part if the truck and he proceeded to tell me to shut up, he was making a set! How can you argue with that? I got the front ones on a couple days ago and WOW! I had no idea they could make that much of a difference! Simply amazing! He designed them for the weight and what I told him I wanted and was a little blown away! I'll get the back ones in another week and was told it gets even better! Thanks again Roger!

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
I bet he would be the guy to talk to about shocks for the back of my crew cab. If I could get it to ride empty like it does with stuff in the bed I would be right on the money.

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
Good idea with the new shocks.
You just finished a long trip so you have some miles to coompair the new with the old. Eight or so ears ago I was introduced to the Bilstine shock guy Steve Duck and he sold me on there product for the Mll front suspension. I had driven the truck with the local parts guy shocks and they had been on the road for 6 or 7 years so it was a no brainer to replace them. YOU are right WHAT a difference good shocks make on a modified suspension I now have a set of Bilstines on all three of my trucks and they ride great. Wait until you have all 4 on your truck, you will really enjoy driving your truck!

Yeah right, loud, with the semi jake brakes coming down from Shasta, he heard your truck over it. I got stopped between Ontario and LaGrande Or for the same thing, I asked "who complained, jack rabbits"? Had the receipt in the glove box for the new mufflers from a week before. Then he gets down on his hands and knees in front of me, gun sticking up in the air and looks to see. If I had been a bad guy... poor choices by a trained professional.

Re: Project "49 No Buck$"
Looking good! What did you end up running for coil springs in the front? Did you run the stock ones or are they dropped?
