Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

I may be able to help a bit with your fund raising effort. I'm still interested in the radiator core support out of the 04 burb and potentially some other goodies if you're ok with that.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Well the next 2 months I'm stuck working swing shift again. better than not work. but this means less work on the truck. Know if I can just find that box of parts.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

I thinking about cleaning the window for my truck before I put the doors back together. I have tried window cleaner and rags. but they are not as clean as I would like them. they are the OEM ones I removed. Is their a good way to clean them so they look more like new before I install them. Thanks for any help.

Try 0000 steel wool, love that stuff for bringing glass and chrome around.

You can get glass polish for light scratches that works pretty good if steel wool just isn't getting it. Gotta be careful with that stuff though you can ruin or break the glass some recommend sealing the glass once your done.

A new razor blade works good to remove over spray, years of smoking film, and dirt build up over time. Just be care fuel to not goudge the glass. Hold the razor blade at an angle while scraping.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

This from twisted78's Goldmember" thread:

"Researched online some options and came up with CC550http://www.winsol.com/550.htm.
So tonight I tried it on one area of the windshield that is pretty bad. Looks like it's going to work really well...
Needless to say, I did part of the passenger side. The rest of the windshield was just cleaned and dried.. No kidding"

Check out page 1 of his thread for pics.
Looks like this works really well for faded/hazy glass. Not sure if that's what you're up against or not.
I'll see if I can figure out how to copy and paste the thread hyperlink.

Last week end I built a cart to put my parts washer and sand blasting cabinet on to free up some bench space.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Friday I stopped by Sky's shop to square up on money I owed and check out progress. He started blocking and sanding the cab. He thinks the bed will be done in 2 or 3 week then I will bring it home for some fitting to the frame I relocated 2 mounting holes and I want to make sure they work. The door gaps are looking much better after he welded some rod to them to tighten them up.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

I love casters everything goes on casters if possible.

Cab looks great!

When it gets hot we fire up both our big a** swamp coolers 2 large ceiling fans and several portable fans. You can't hear anything (so we crank up the tunes) but it will drop the temp in the garage!

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

SJ is hot to day. My garage is very well insulated but it is still about 80 + degrees right now and the sun is blaring at my garage door in the afternoons. one of these days I will install and air conditioner.

The door gaps look awesome! Nice work on your cart. I will have a window air in my garage by next summer. It's insulated nicely so there is no reason to sweat in it. Haha

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Thanks Guys. I installed an attic fan above my garage in 2008 it's solar powered but it does not exchange the air fast enough on hot days. one of these days I will do something about it.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

Finally got the lower radiator brackets set up. had to drill out some spot welds and bend the flange under them so they fit and bolt in the larger brackets for my 4 core radiator. I tried to mod the upper brackets but I lose the fan shroud mounting hole so I ordered the ones for larger radiator.

Quad cab, sweet. I have not been a fan of the few extended cabs I've seen (sorry) but I think this will look good since it is essentially a shortened 'burb.
