I think somthings wrong. You should be making alot more power than that!
Expert racers that ride these say that yer setup should make over 200 hp and
over or around 280 torque. Somthings wrong. According to factory 292 stock
makes 265 torque and 150 hp. Somthing not right!

I mentioned this as well a few posts back. I spoke with an inliner named Walt Pearce. He has a 250 that he drag races out in Washington State. From what I could gather from people who know him, he is "the man," when it comes to 250-292 race engines. He is also the guy responsible for making the new harmonic balancers for these motors. Anyway, he told me that the biggest mistake guys are making is when they put lumps in the head they don't use a big enough cam. He said most guys just put in the Clifford cam and think they will be good to go.

However, what people are missing is that the Clifford cams are only designed for a standard head and their intakes, not for the additional flow that the lumps provide. Furthermore Walt went on to say that when you add lumps you not only need more cam, but then you must also have more carb. Apparently the Holley 390 is fine for just a standard say Clifford or Offy intake.

Walt also told me that with lumps a 650 minimum on the carb but ideally you should be running a dual carb setup. This is because both the Clifford and Offy intakes have an inherent flaw. That is because of their design they do not flow the fuel supply evenly to all the cylinders. It seems as if the middle cylinders run lean on these sixes. Just some food for thought.

That is bizzar! I almost went with a clifford cam and high flow lumps! Are you using
a lump port head? You would think that cliffords cam would work well do to the high lift! Do you have any cam reccomendations when using the lump port head?

Are you sure your cam did not go flat? Cause my old stock 292 seems to have
alot more torque and hores power than that! Some say that the clifford cam
is not very good quality. I went and looked at a clifford cam in person and they
seemed to be good quality, but I know that a 292 should have alot more power
than that. Especially since the clifford cam is high lift. And a holley 390 is a good
carb for that. If you think about getting a new carb I would get an edelbrock
600 cfm double pump carb 4 barrel, thay are better quality by far than the holley.
If your cam is flat you could get a delta cam they are great for racing and good
quality.

Hey DLoE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was hoping you could help me out. I am looking for a 292 water pump like yours. Are you using the original pump (just cleaned up),that came with your motor, or did you buy a new one for your build. Where can I find one? Thanks man! Looking killer!!!!!!!!!

Re: DLoE's Dropmembered 65 StepSiDe Build

Nice build!
This is the first DMed step side build I have read. It came out great!

Couple questions:

Did they give you any other dyno sheets? I was curious how much torque it made at lower rpms? I always thought straight 6's were known for that. I've owned and built a few Jeep straight 6's and they were pretty much done by 3200rpms, which is about where your dyno pull started. I am also assuming that is rear wheel horsepower?

I worked at a high end engine shop with 3 engine dynos and a chassis dyno. Street cars rarely made the power numbers that they were expected to, particularly on the chassis dyno.

You said it feels like it makes good power. Other than maybe some carb experimenting I would just be happy with it. You don't seem too worried about it actually

If you needed to how much lower could the bed floor be? I told the old lady I brought one more car home because I really needed a truck for trips to Home Depot and the plant nursery

...I also have dirt bikes so a little more depth might be a good idea for me.

Thanks
