Re: Project truck dream 65"
Finally the carb and pushrods were ordered a few days ago and were are all I needed to finish my engine.
I went with an Eldelbrock 750. The 600 was recommended, but in my opinion would be under-fueled.Pushrods...,well Comp of course ! As you all know by following my build, I'm taking my time to get it right ! In the next few days I will be visiting the machine shop to see my 383 fired up on the dyno.We will be using the shop distributor, wires and headers when we do,all my own goodies will get bolted on later. I will post a vid of it running with hopes to achive the expected hp and torque. Stay tuned !

Re: Project truck dream 65"
The motor mounts seem to be an issue with some makes of headers as they tend to hit on the upper hump of the perch.
I wanted to use the originals as the other option for me was to cut my frame to accept aftermarket perches. My headers would have been a problem for sure and knew it when I got them. I wanted the brand because they are one of the few still made in the USA and beyond that are a high clipster design, so any speed bumps...,wont be a problem. So the top of the pech has now been modified so there is plenty of clearance, about an inch now.Typically the front header pipe is the culprit. I will clean em up this weekend, off to the powder coaters next week.

I have a grill question for you all ! I found the pic online of this '64 and was wondering if this area had been reworked with material added or was this oem for certain models ?

Re: Project truck dream 65"
Almost there...hoped for the Dyno run but its looking like next week.Valve covers mounted and the carb just in from the supplier and resting in place for a visual.
I was earlier thinking I should have held off on the Ultra Pro rockers, but they are in there now...no turning back and glad for it! Now for the less painfull steps...., bolting on the future tinsel !

Re: Project truck dream 65"
I love it! I think I'm gonna do a 383---would you give me your opinion on crank, pistons, etc.? I will use a 2000 350 truck block and stock vortec heads. I was looking in Jegs and there are a few ways to do the bottom end combo. Also, is there a particular harmonic balancer you like to take care of the external balance?

Great looking engine. Now that it's coming together I can't wait to see it in the truck.

Re: Project truck dream 65"
Tonight the front of the truck comes apart.....again.I'm not wanting to do the engine and trans install with it togather so here I go......., again.
The inner fenders, hood and rad support are off to the paint shop in the next couple weeks, base, three coats of clear, wet sand and buff. So the timing is good.Going............, outside...........,to .......,the....,shop..........., now.

Re: Project truck dream 65"
The front of the body was out on one side and I didnt notice it until I bolted the bumper on weeks back.Fortunately is was a simple shim adjustment at the fenders to cab and rad mount bolts, and Im now within an 1/8" A guy needs a lucky break once and a while....I guess tonight was one of them!
There were a few more holes drilled in the rad support for future wire routing some tweaking on the rad mounting so the next big step will be next week.(I hope) Thanks to a good buddy,I had help.I dont know I would have followed through with the tear down tonight if he hadnt been here. Its 12:20am the front end is off.The truck goes back to the body shop for final firewall paint and clear. Goodnight.

Re: Project truck dream 65"
Slept in until 9:20am this morn ! Guess I was a little tired from last night's tear down.
I went to a friends wrecking yard today and found a column bracket and clamp to use as a temp for the end of the week move to the booth. After that,I stopped in at the machine shop and a big surprise was waiting there for me.I had no idea before showing up that my 383 was waiting on the dyno for me ! I couldn't include my video footage as my file was to big to send,so Ill post the one taken by the shop here soon.

Re: Project truck dream 65"
I just got my rad cover finished today.I has strips added to the top both sides so the rad support top is now completely covered in stainless. This should look alot better now when all is back togather !
