Re: 1968

I spent the day working on the door while waiting for my sand to dry for the sand blaster. I bought a load of sand for 18.00 and had to dry it and sift it. I figure that the sand cost was about .50 to .75 a bag this way. I can use all the sand I want at this bargin of a price.

Foots doing okay.
Your door bottoms dont look all that terrible. If you decide to weld'em up make small patch panels and work slowly.
I know telling you to work slowly is like trying to stop a herd of buffalo.
They don't look that bad. You can see what I had to deal with
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=532910&page=3
pics of the home made sandblast cabinet is there too.

You got the welding thing down. This would be a great opportunity to get some hands on experience.

Today, I sand blasted the bed rails and painted the black. They turned out good. I will put another coat of paint on them before I install them.

Re: 1968

Today I took it easy. I am nursing a head acke today. I took apart the braces for the steps. And the front bumper. It came off a 71/72 truck. It is in great shape no dents or rust. I will use it untill I find a 67/68 bumper. The same way for the rear bumper. It also came off of a 71/72 truck.

Re: 1968

Started patching bottom of door. Thanks BOMP for giving me the idea of fixing the bottm of door with out spending money. Sometimes a person needs to step out of the box or yet look on this forum for a simple answer to a problem. You can see where I cut out the bottom of the door to accommodate the patch # one.

Re: 1968

I use cereal box card board to trace out my patterns Or any thicker type construction paper.
If you get new sheet metal buy 18 gauge for the doors. 16 gauge will work to but I use that for the floor patches.
If you have scrap parts layin around that are pretty solid I usually hit those first.
Remember to take your time on patch work. Tack, tack, tack. Try to shy away from running any beads. Wanna keep the heat down.
Good luck.

I had some scrap metal from the back of the steps that was flat. That I was sending to the scrap yard. It was a lot thicker than what was used from the factory. I think. Got to count for 46 years of rust also. I got patch # 1 made and waiting to get more welding wire. I ran out last night. So that little/big project is on hold till I go to harbor frieght in New Port Richie, Fl.

Re: 1968

I also will be picking up some 18 gage metal for patching. I need to fix the specker holes in the doors. The other door has the same hole where someone cut for speckers.
I took apart the rear brake light and step braces getting them ready for blasting. Alone with a few other small parts.

I also welded and bondo the holes in the door where the west coast mirrors were. There was a small dent by the door handle I fixed it also. It looked like the door got away from someone in the wind.

Today, I just could not get motivated, you see it rained all day. So I went to Home Depot and knocked out one of my honey due list. I installed a totlet in the guess bathroom. Hurt my back again. So maybe tomorrow I will do something on my truck.

Today it rained again all day long. Two day in a row. So I Started working on the bottom of my door. Like the way it is turning out. Going to go back to work on the door later tonight. Maybe I can finish all the welding on it tonight. Monday or Tuesday I might get the rest of my parts I ordered.

Re: 1968

In the above picture is a center bed rail. Can anyone tell me where it fits. Or send me to a place of a build where someone has a picture of the rails on the truck.
