Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

You know what's boring? Sanding. Almost done with the second one.

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

It was a day filled with other priorities, but we were able to get the first coat of high build on the tubs. A few more coats, some blocking, and they'll be ready for paint.

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

Broke out the torch today. Had to warm a few areas up to straighten them out.

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

Fixed a substantial crease on the driverside panel, then started to blow the bed apart and prep the inside for paint.

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

Thanks, Don!

Dad blasted the tight spots/corners of both bed sides while I prepped the front panel and finished cleaning up the inside of the drivers bed side, then we laid down the first coat of primer.

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

Thanks!

We shot the black on the front panel, inside of the bedsides and inside of the tubs today. Well over three hours of prep for 20 minutes of shooting.

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

Done painting the inside of the bed. We'll shoot some bed liner in the wheel tubs and between the inner and outer bedsides next weekend, then it can be reassembled the weekend after.

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

Got a very early start at the shop this morning to beat the heat and shoot the bedliner. We coated the inside of the tubs and between the inner/outer sheetmetal on the bedsides.

It goes back together next weekend!

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

Dad routed the bed wood at the wheelwells and touched up the paint in all of the bolt holes while I blocked out the tubs for another coat of high-build today.

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

Back to my favorite activity. You know, for a build that is "not supposed to be a show truck", there sure has been a lot of blocking.

Been awhile since I have been checking in... Looking great and all the hard, tedious work will pay off in the end... You're killing it!

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

Thanks Don. We're still plugging away at it.

We took a break from the bed today to make the brake lines for the rear axle. We used Copper-Nickel D.O.T.-rated tubing and stainless stone guard. The tubing was very easy to work with, and this flaring kit was soooo much better than the cheapo flaring tools we've used in the past. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

Took a couple of weeks off for a family trip to the Southwest, but I was back at it today. Finished blocking out the tubs. They should see paint next weekend.

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

Shot the first coat of satin black on the tubs this morning, then knocked out the rest of the brake line under the bed. The truck is going to have to roll outside for a bath before long.

Re: Bringing the '65 back to life

The tubs are installed. Please disregard the dust. It'll get a bath after the body work is finished.
