Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
The exhaust was built by Freese's Exhaust Shop here in Chico. The pipe is 2.25" and the mufflers are 18" Magnaflows.

Looks good, try not to use the rear recovery point though...

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
Thanks for the exhaust info Jim, I'll probably take mine to a local shop up here that does great work.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
Awesome build, really enjoyed it.
Especially the attention to detail that you provided. I drive an 85 k20 and my 18 year old son drives an 86 k20, both daily drivers (even with todays gas prices, we tell everyone that our truck payment is our gas payment). Keep up the good work, love seeing these ol trucks on the road.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
Today I spliced in a 4-wire trailer plug. I used correctly labeled/colored wires that I saved after installing the American Autowire kit.
I also replaced the speedometer cable and removed the speedometer gearbox. The gearbox leaked really bad, and the dash showed double the actual speed. I need to take it for a test drive and see how accurate the speedometer reads now. |

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
Nice, the harness looks clean. I believe you can get new gear boxes in different ratios if need be..

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
So the speedometer doesn't move at all now. I must have missed something.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
Silly question Jim, is the new cable hooked up to the speedo at the dash??

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
It was hooked up on my drive to get dinner, but I disconnected it on the drive home to see if it was spinning at the dash end. It was not.

I hope it's a easy fix!

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
The speedometer cable was just not lined up at the transfer case end - easy fix. It functions, but the accuracy is still off. At 30mph the dash reads 35mph. I'll take the improvement.
I rotated the tires today. Put the spare in so it can get some miles. |

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
Backordered saddle door panels showed up today. I also have a Precision window channel kit and new window regulators. Time to rebuild my doors.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
I bought them from Classic Industries back in January, but they were out of stock. Driver side armrest is still backordered.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
My driver door has new window seals and a new door panel. Precision weatherstrip is quite a bit nicer than the LMC ones I have used in the past. If I were restoring the truck, I would not be that happy with these OER brand door panels. For this truck they are just fine though.
I'll do the passenger side tomorrow probably. I look forward to how much quieter the cab will be with door panels. And I will not miss the windows banging around in the track. |

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
I worked on the passenger door today. The handle was missing the button which didn't really matter to me, but I had the new part and so I had to fix it. One of the captured nuts for the armrest was missing. I found it in the bottom of the door and I was able to get it put back. The window regulator needed to be replaced too, so I did that.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
The window roller channel was super gummed up so I cleaned that out. A sharp corner of the window was catching on the new vent window channel so I filed it down for smoother operation. I would like to finish putting the door panel on this side but no parts stores are open on Easter, so I can't get more of the nylon door panel fasteners that I need.

Re: '72 Cheyenne K10
The passenger door is all back together. Just waiting on an armrest for the driver side.
