Restoring OEM Seatbelts

Here is a set of Charcoal Black belts I’ve been working on for someone for awhile. These needed cleaned & Restored, but also received new webbing.

These were also paired with a set of NOS center belts, and new upper anchor covers.

These were cleaned and restored for someone. Changed from Blue to Black. So they were disassembled for through cleaning. All the plastics were cleaned, prepped and dyed Black. Then the belts were sent away for new black webbing.

1987 Charcoal Black. Repaired, cleaned and restored for someone

Just completed this set of 67-72 Saddle belts for someone. Whew, these little guys needed a good cleaning! Didn’t help that the previous owner of the belts tried their hand at some spray painting, so all that needed cleaned off😰. Rust removed from the chrome buckle housings. Replaced 2 of the buckle covers that were cracked. Everything was freshened up with Saddle, and New Emblems installed. Not all the stains came out no matter how much I tried, but that happens sometimes depending on what caused that stain. But they certainly look a whole lot better!

Here is a set of 76/77 1st Style 3pt seatbelts. Color is Saddle. These were restored for someone. Throughly cleaned and freshened with the original color. They also received NEW Emblems. These turn out great!

I ask about seatbelt sleeves in your other thread.
I forgot about this thread.
I also follow your seatbelt thread on FB.

Someone mentioned the bucket seat sleeves and cutting them.

I received the set I ordered today.

I will give them a try to see what they look like with no twist like you suggested.

I will post back results if you want?

Got a set of Burgundy restored for someone.

I’m working on a set of 1980 Blue. This is a one year only color. I’m doing these for a fellow that has been restoring his Dad’s 1980 K20. These are not FOR SALE!
These were completely disassembled for through cleaning, relubing of the mechanisms so they retract better. All the plastics have been cleaned, prepped and freshened up with the original 1980 Blue. Buckles will receive New Emblems when they come back from receiving New Webbing. They have been temporarily reassembled and are being sent away for New Webbing at this time. Can’t wait to see them when they come back!
Check out the Before and During Restoration pictures. Once they come back from getting rewebbed, I’ll update the post. I also added pictures of the beautiful truck these will be going in.

Kind of confused by that question since I have several recent posts about restoring seatbelts, lol. The answer would be yes, when I can find the time. It has been a rough year.
1) Parents were up from Florida for a few months. We were getting a lot of legal things taken care of since they are getting older.
2) we also started some remodeling, which suddenly was put on hold, due to 3 deaths within a month on the in-laws side of the family. One of which we were tasked with cleaning out the house. Since it was just the 2 of us, with no help from the other family, it took several months to get that completed and the house sold.
3) Just when that was being finalized, Hurricane Ian hit where my parents live in Florida. They had gone back home in July, the storm hit at the end of August. So I took off down there for several weeks to help them with cleanup.
4) Once I was back home, the remodeling was that was started was finished up. Actually still have some to do, but it can wait for the time being.

But I have been doing some, when time allows.

But to answer your question on the PM. I would advise starting out with a tan, going light to dark poses some issues. Plus I don’t dye the seatbelt webbing to change colors, they would need to get new webbing.

NOT FOR SALE
These were cleaned, restored and color changed for someone. The belts he had were 1987 Burgundy, but to change from dark to light, I don’t really prefer doing that. So I used a set of Light Saddle Tan to start with. Belts were disassembled for through cleaning, rust removal and mechanisms lubed for better retracting. All the buckles and hardware were also throughly cleaned.
Next step was that all the plastic parts were cleaned, prepped and dyed the color choice, which was the 1991-1983 Light Blazer Gray.
Then the belts were temporarily reassembled and sent for New Webbing.
Got them back today and finished up the reassembly, and WOW! They turned out NICE!

So I’ve been playing around with these sleeves, and here’s what I came up with. They are definitely not meant to have 2 belts in a sleeve, like our 81-87 belts are, but I managed to get them in there. But the bottom part where the bolt goes, that has to be cut off. The plastic sleeve is too rigid to get both thru to the bottom.
The sleeves can be heated up with a heat gun to get the curves. I actually could attempt to work on the bend a little more, now that I finally got both belts thru.
So will they work? I believe so, it’s just going to take some work. Of course I haven’t tried installing them into the truck, and thru the seatbelt bezels in the seat bottom.
I can actually see these working better for the 78-80 seatbelts & seats. Those belts come up between the top & seat bottom, and the belts are all separate. There are 2 buckles that in sleeves by themselves, and then another center lap that’s paired with those buckles, that’s not in a sleeve. See the last photo, those are 78-80 buckles. And their little anchors were exposed at the bottom, just like this test sleeve.

I did have a seat that I just stripped down to restore, so I just sort of test fit the sleeve in the seatbelt holes on the bottom foam. I think this will work!
