Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Between yesterday and today I've built my 20" drop hitch to pull my mastercraft, made my tailgate hinges, razor bladed all the outside of the glass, cleaned all the inside of the glass, and gave er a new set of spark plugs.. Next is to give it a good bath and take it on a 60 mile round trip to tailgate at a concert! Crossing my fingers for the trip

Will an Eaton or Auburn posi unit swap in place in the same diff housing (12 bolt). Here are a few pic's. Too much power and tire combo.Haha.

So anyone in the know on the swap.
You found the weak spot!
It is my understanding that an Eaton will go in place of the gov-loc, I have not done it but I was told by a very good mechanic that it would. He also told me that the Eaton is the best to go in a 12 bolt

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Sorry, mudman

Took the "maiden voyage" of about 20 miles yesterday.

The leak-chasing seemed to work...knock on wood. Still, the radiator weak spot was the trans cooler circuit. It leaked.
So, I've got an external cooler on order and have the cooler lines connected until it comes.

I went to time it today and there is only one TDC mark on the h. balancer. Anyone know a fix for that? Maybe someone sells a "sticker".

I used a hole (that one of the P.O.s must have drilled) in the dash for something to put in a Radio Shack mini-button for the horn.
I'm really not too happy about it, but the hole was already there. And, I *was* sick of sussing out the "beep-beep".
Later for the proper fix.

And, now the brass rat (mouse?) gets a new ride.

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Got out the dies and cleaned up the mangled side mount spare studs the stupid bubbas ruined by using wrong lug nuts , drove it and hauled home another vintage Honda Motocycle , smelled burned oil the whole way there and back - I can't wait to begin overhauling my spare engine .

I wish I were close enough to get that giv. lock rear end ~ I could put it to good use after repairing it as my little 6 Banger engine won't stress it atall .

There should only be 1 TDC mark on the balancer. Does it only have 1 point on the timing cover, or no tab there? There is a tab available.

Or if there is only 1 mark on the timing cover, you could get an advance timing light. Summit does sell timing tape

Good luck.

Need parts for my rear diff. So ordered an open carrier for cheap and also a Loc-rite locker for the 12 bolt so will be way better than my Gov lock that blew a tooth and WILL blow again. Now waiting for parts again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I'm so close, I hate to keep asking for "de-bugging tips" from you all. But I'm going to.

A week ago, before I changed the carb from the Edlebrock to the new Street Demon, I had a little issue with starting. I didn't know if it was spark or gas,
but I smelled the gas, so the bet was flooding. The carb had been on for four years and it had just recently started up...Ran good. but too rich, and the tuning
of the secondaries wasn't responding.

During the time it wasn't firing, I pulled a plug to check for spark, waited until my grandson came home, and got knocked back on my a$$ when it fired up
on the first crank. On seven cyls. ...One I was holding in my hand.

Then I changed out the carb.

Immediately after the install, it started like a pro... after a little dialing in of the cables, electric choke, etc.

Then, yesterday, before the "maiden cruise", she wouldn't start. Tons of cranking. I didn't check for spark. After about 30 minutes of persistent cranking
(and, admittedly, some throttle pumping...then a cautionary, "Hey, no more gas, you jerk!"), she started. Strong and nice.

Went for a 20 mile cruise, and stopped three or four times...restarted perfectly during the stops at the bank, the store, etc. Came home. An hour and a half or two later,
a friend came over. Started her right up to let him hear the exhaust. Ran immediately. And nice.

This morning, I went out to move it into the garage to do some little cosmetic work...No gas on the throttle. "Crank, crank, crank".....
"Oh, SH&$"! Gas...."Crank, crank, crank!" "Double SH*%"! Off with the air cleaner. Gas is squirting big time into the primaries. Choke is open.

Off to the auto pars store. Bought a new Accel HEI coil. Came home and installed it. Fired off immediately.

Now, the problem with that diagnosis effort is that I left it for an hour to get the distributor parts. Given the same time away from the starter
(without getting the $50 Accel coil hit), she may have started right up anyway.

So, unless I re-wiggled and "fixed" an intermittent spark flaw, or something in the HEI coil was fu-bared that I fixed, I still feel the issue is with the gas.
Even though it keeps happening, and did so with a previous carb. As it does now with the new one. (Great carb, though, BTW...Huge difference in all aspects except this one)

Right now, I went out and started it up. Fires off like a champ. My guess is that tomorrow morning, after sitting all night, I'll go out and she'll crank, crank, crank.
Then I'll walk away for 45 minutes. Go back, and she'll fire right up.

Is this magic?
