Nothing done today but yesterday I found (woohoo) and ordered what I hope and expect to be the correct AN fitting to allow me to use both braided hose and my Monojet carb. Summit sent the wrong fitting. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Last night we started on the 67 GMC. dropping it from a 6 inch lift to a 2.5 inch lift. Also replacing both axles with a matching set from a 79 Blazer (original axles I bought it with didn't have matching gear ratios... grrr...). I have had both replacement axles in the garage for some time but had been putting it off for a while because life is busy. Well the other day I felt something weird in the rear while driving and found the drivers side spring perch in the back had ripped loose. So I guess it was time. I'll take pictures tonight when we finish it up, I forgot the camera last night. It's going to be so much better to drive now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Before... After.... (*dont know why my phone made the floor look yellow!) Still need to add about 50 hog rings and pull it tighter but the wife wanted me to do other stuff so I had to stop. BTW, I converted the bottom from 'high spring' to full foam. I replaced the springs with a ridged lower but it feels perfect when sitting in the seat. It may be a little stiffer than if it had the lower seat springs but it feels perfect to me. ~JH |

Replaced my spark plug wires, cap and coil. Coil fixed my random cut off issue. Discovered my rear wheel cylinder was leaking. It's always something but enjoying the journey.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Installed a new radiator fan shroud, only to find out that the Flex-a-Lite fan that came with the truck is too big! No wonder it didn't have a shroud... And what happened to NAPA? They don't carry red-blooded American Chevy V-8 parts anymore? All I want is a stock regular old clutch fan for my truck. I thought it was mandatory for NAPA to have that stuff on hand and within reach at all times. I was looking forward to shopping at NAPA and chewing the fat with the old timers behind the counter now that I actually own a piece of living historic cast iron blocked truck, but sadly, they have become mainstream sellers of Subaru windshield wipers and discounted hand cleaner... I blame the internet!!!

Wow, surprised Napa is going that route, maybe just your store or certain ones depending on size and location, hope that's all.

While all of us want the best parts we can't stomach the high prices. A flex fan looks a lot more reasonable and they rarely wear out.

Drove it to breakfast & flirted with the cashier. She just likes me for my ride. Otherwise, just another basic Saturday trying to dodge the rain.

I ordered a replacement fuel filter for the one I cannot figure out where I put it and I picked up some more fuel line clamps.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Flipped this over yesterday, so we can hit the backside. The body guy is doing a great job. He has in mind a bed-liner coat out of the gun. He says most people spray light or heavy, but he's in-between. Leaves a near semi-gloss finish. We're going to hit the front and rear wells with the same, but I'm going to ask we dull it down some for those. Close to satin anyway. Looking forward to results.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Solved the problem of engine cooling fan. Searched the pick and pull down the street and came up with a 7-bladed fan from a 1990 GM car with a 305 v-belt drive and mated it to a fan clutch from a 77 Chevy pickup. Bolted right on and fits nice within the shroud from LMC. Cools the engine real nice, quieter than the flex-a-lite, and will suck your shirt sleeve through the radiator! Cost: $15.

Progress has been extremely slow. I was able to "dig" out the bed bolts. 3 layers of spray in bed liner. That was fun. I also started on a bed cart for when I remove the bed.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I had built a cart for the entire front clip, but paint is a go and the hood is with the painter. The inner fenders soon follow. Hood fits perfectly inside our beds BTW, a fleetside anyway.
At any rate, I've been itching to build a platform to lay the cab on its back off the cab cart. The front clip cart is no longer needed, so I disassembled it to build the platform. Still cost another $30, but the platform takes more weight. The platform & cart bolt up using threaded rods, to disconnect from either side (a MUST). With the padding the platform is level to the cart. Should make for an easy transition on and off the cart. When I'm bored I'll add stakes to hang the fenders, and some eye-bolts to tie down the cab..................Happy to say this should be the last cart I build for this project.

Brought mine home from storage to sell it. Breaks my heart, but after 13 years of trying to sell my property to become a Bison rancher, getting rid of toys is my last ditch effort. Probably should have started selling toys first. Bolted every thing you see here together since yesterday and will bolt the rest together tomorrow

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Learned about leaf springs tonight. Just penetrating oil and a heat gun to pull them. Discovered the lower shackle bolts are a real *&*(&%(%. Those bolts took a lot of punches with a 3/8" ratchet extension and hammer.
Sure has taken me a while, but I've learned a lot. Happy to say the much better end is close. All that's left are the front suspension and engine/trans. I'll probably pull the front suspension next week.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
installed the 700 r4 trans AGAIN! bought a reman from a company in Richmond Va. put it in and it never worked right. took it to a trans guy near me who went through it and found LOTS of stuff wrong. after going through it (and installing a shift kit) , it cost me more than the original one. in the long run, it probably cost as much as a performance trans from Summit, Jegs, Monster or any of the other places. OH WELL. lesson learned. hopefully this will be the last time. I'm getting too old to do this stuff by myself.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Well, I was able to get the bed off and rear end out this weekend. It ended up being a little father son bonding time with my dad. I made a little video about it as well. This weekend I am going to remove all of the rivets, clean up the frame a bit and start laying out holes for the coil spring crossmember and track bar crossmember.
