Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
The door gaps look awesome! Nice work on your cart. I will have a window air in my garage by next summer. It's insulated nicely so there is no reason to sweat in it. Haha

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Thanks Guys. I installed an attic fan above my garage in 2008 it's solar powered but it does not exchange the air fast enough on hot days. one of these days I will do something about it.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Finally got the lower radiator brackets set up. had to drill out some spot welds and bend the flange under them so they fit and bolt in the larger brackets for my 4 core radiator. I tried to mod the upper brackets but I lose the fan shroud mounting hole so I ordered the ones for larger radiator.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Quad cab, sweet. I have not been a fan of the few extended cabs I've seen (sorry) but I think this will look good since it is essentially a shortened 'burb.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Yup bed is looking good. I bet your counting the days till cab day?!
BTW, you asked about color for your emblems that need repainting. I used 1 sot pinstriped paint and here are the colors. I used orange, but I think stock is chevy red on the emblems. Both are circled in this image.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I'm worried that the cab wont fit in the garage after I put on the frame I don't feel comfortable leaving it out side. I found some 17" wheels cheep that I'm going to pick up and see if a 45R on 17" wheel will get it in the garage. We will see if a few week. I need the 17" wheels so I can put my front brake calipers on the 16" wheel I have are not big enough.
Thanks for the color chart I will check it out. |

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I did the same thing, but the store that was supposed to have it didn't ended up buying it online from summit. BTW, you will have much better results if you use the 1 shot hardener as well. See my build for hardener part numbers. It definitely helped it flow better and dried much faster.
Good luck! Can't wait to see'm all new looking and shiny Chris

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I did not get much done on the crew cab this week end. Ended up working on my 1998 flat bed Saturday and Sunday so I can drive it to work. It did pass smog test. I'm giving my company truck back this week as it's not comfortable to drive and the AC smell SH**. it's a 2013 Ford F150 the seat is like sitting on a bolder.
I final got my fender badging Friday. looks purdy dam cool I think. the Cheyenne 30 I got from Paul's GMC. the LSX was from Amazon and the 5.3L was from Newegg. |

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
In my previous post I said I got the LSX badges from Amazon. In fact they came from Ebay. I don't have part number for them. I did a google search for LSX emblem and 1 for 5.3L to find them. when I get home from work Tuesday I will see what info I can give you to order them.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
The local store to get the 1 shot paint requires you to be a member and I don't have the required info to join. so I checked out Summit and they don't sell the hardener 4007. so I tried Eastwood and the cost to touch up 1 emblem would be about $70.00. so I Went to Tower Hobbies and ordered some Model Master paint witch I'm familiar with and ordered 5 different red paints for $16.50 if they don't match I can mix and match. thinning with good lacquer thinner will make this paint dry fast and dull the finish witch will help match the color.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I spent some time after work mixing up some paint to fix one of my Cheyenne 30 emblems and it worked out real good. I mixed 1/4 ounce of red 1/4 ounce of brown and about 1 ounce of yellow to match the color. the scratch was in side the zero about 1/4" square scratch. now its gone.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Thanks Chris
I'm trying to save money for painting at this point. The badges cost me $90.00 for the LSX and 5.3L. forget what the Cheyenne 30 cost I think about $80.00. Having some custom ones made would have been a lot more. I should be getting my cab back in about 2 weeks. set up seats steering wheel and master cylinder then find a place to get the paint done. |

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Dave, we may have already discussed this but I don't remember. What Burban parts do you left? Just wondering if there's anything I might be able to use and could buy from you.
Also, was Cesar helpful at all?

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Mr.D I don't have much of anything left from the 69 burb. I do have the 04 burb but I need my cab back to see what I'm going to use out of it. need to test fit some things. you did mention you wanted the core support from the 04.
