Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

i dont know buddy... 79gmc5.3 is going to take a stock compressor and lines over to brp and have them test fit it. i'm hoping it works... if not, the best solution is the conversion plates and high mount a/c bracket and compressor. that is maybe another option though(tbss compressor)

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

I thought Bob looked at a TB compressor, and it was a no go? IIRC, it was close, but the frame still needed to be notched a little bit for clearance, and it was about an inch from the idler arm. I thought that was why he decided to go with the high mount compressor.

Yeah I think you are correct. Someone did look into the TBSS compressor, but don't remember what the issue was.

If I recall correctly; not able to find the correct 90 degree output and/or adaptor. I will look at my bookmarks once I get home.

Dennis;

Codys87 has the BRP engine mounts and it appears he is using a 96 compressor.

But it looks like we both may have about the same clearance.

Let me know what you think. I was going to order the adapter tonight.

work... PRIME RIB TIME!!

and actually i'm waiting to hear from a fellow board member if the BRP mounts are going to work like i had hoped i do need to take a few pics of the fuel system parts i got last week.

quick question buddy, can you shoot me a link to the fuel lines and adaptors you used and how you ran the driverside tank fuel line? did you use the factory steel fuel line that goes across the crossmember?

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

I have my receipts and notes at home, I'll look that stuff up tonight. Not sure if I have pics of the left to right lines or not, but yes, I did use the OEM steel lines that run across that crossmember right behind the cab. I just replaced the fuel lines that connect from the SU to the lines with the same Summit high PSI hose I used throughout.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Bob hope you dont mind.....

C&P

You will need to swap the sending units to the 87 models. The 87's had TBI and used in-tank pumps. The sending unit part numbers are:

* Dorman p/n 692027 for the driver side, $94 at rockauto.com
* Dorman p/n 692044 for the passenger side, $101 at rockauto.com

I used ACDelco fuel pumps:

* AC Delco EP381 in-tank pumps. $69 at getgmparts.com

And a high pressure tank switch valve:

* Pollak high psi tank selector valve. $83 at JC Whitney, p/n ZX812705U

And be sure to use fuel injection hose, not regular fuel hose. Also use good fuel injection clamps, not the typical worm gear clamps.

I ordered FI rated 5/16" hose for the return lines, and Summit's -6 hose for the pressure side. FI rated clamps on all the tank and valve connections, and Summit's Snap-Tite AN fittings on the Vette filter/regulator and fuel rail.

This is the hose:

Hey Dennis I still have not had a chance to get to BRP but I will, don't give up on me. With Christmas and work it has been tough. I have been pming Bob and he did not think they would work. I also talked to a friend who is a stress engineer where I work and he did not think knocking the fram in that area would be a problem.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

More part #'s:

Dorman 800-120: 5/16" adapter for the inlet end of the filter (return line) (need 1)
Dorman 800-121: 3/8" adapter for the inlet end of the filter (feed line) (need 1)
Dorman 800-155: 3/8'' x 12'' Double Bead Line, cut in half and use one on the outlet end of the filter (need 1)

RUS-640850: 3/8" Fuel rail fitting adapter (need 1)
* RUS-660350: -6AN male to -6 AN male, use at the outlet end of the filter (need 1)
* RUS-660650: -6AN tube sleeve (need 1)
* RUS-660570: -6AN tube nut (need 1)

SUM-220701: -6AN straight hose end, barbed for Twist-Tite hose (need 2)
SUM-220785: -6AN Twist-Tite rubber hose, 20' length (won't need this much though)

IDE52F15: 5/16" FI hose clamps
IDE52F16: 3/8" FI hose clamps
STIFI-503: 5/16" FI hose, 10' length (for return lines)

The Dorman numbers I got from Rock Auto. In a pinch, AutoZone and the like usually stock part #'s 800-120 and 800-121, but I don't know the price. The Russell and Summit (RUS, SUM) numbers are from Summit Racing. The FI hose clamps and 5/16" FI hose I got from www.autobarn.net I did also find the hose clamps locally, if you have someone that can get Auveco parts, those part numbers are 15861 (5/16") and 15862 (3/8").

(*) These will get used on the double bead line, as well as the trans cooler lines if you need to go from steel line to SS hose. The tube nut gets slipped on, then the tube sleeve, then a 37° flare put on the line. The the RUS-660350 double -6AN male threads to the nut, then the SUM-220701 swivel end on the hose threads onto that.

Dennis, I am glad to see you are keeping things coming. That has been the hard thing for me since getting my truck. The delays between when I am able to get certain parts is why I don't have a build thread. (I know go ahead and take you shot). But I am really enjoying following this with you. Keep going! Keep going! Keep going!

the new job/thread thing was for Gerald. He NEEDS to start a build thread with his plans at least

patience... its hard man. just imagine if you had the money and still had to hold back i'd rather hold back than have to hear it. Amy is already talking about going back to our original agreement of "a dollar for a dollar" that would be rough... that would mean everything i buy is doubled. We did that with the parts on the GOAT.

Wow, she must have got some cool...Shoes? Purses? Clothes? Whatever she enjoys spending money on. Because I am sure that you don't just have "a couple bucks" into that one.

And about seeing your truck in person...I am sure that will happen. Here or there, it will happen.

Maybe I will start a build thread when time allows me to actually sit on here and type it all out one night. That might be fun and keep me motivated to do some more when I can.

That's why I started my build thread Gerald. Didn't really have much to show, but everyone wanted me to start one. Now it's just a place to hang out and bs, and every once in a while some of my progress get's thrown in.

Man that would suck, I just sneek parts in all the time. If my wife only new. But she is getting a new house so this will hold her over for a little bit.
