Reason I ask is that the TC in new vehicles is "funny." I learned the hard way (felt stupid after) with my silverado. The first week I started driving it in really cold weather the TC was acting up. It wouldn't lock in OD. It turns out that the computer won't let the TC lock until the transmission has reached a certain operating temp (I think 160 degrees) so it will feel like the TC is slipping or not engaging in 4th gear. It will do this until the trans is warm. To "fix" this slight annoyance, I drive in 3rd in the winter until she gets up to temp, not usually more than 5 or 6 minutes.

Truck is coming along great
Every time mine acts up it dings at me and says "SERVICE 4WD" in the window. Then it won't shift into 4WD HI or LO or AUTO 4WD until I turn the truck off and restart it. Usually acts fine then. Did it at 9K, 29K and 39K every time being a different part or program update. I was happy that they covered it this last time but don't expect them to anymore. This truck sees 12K a year and most of that is to preschool or the grocery store and the 4WD barely gets used....

thanks on the truck though. no computers on this one!

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

What year is the Tahoe? GM also had issues with the electronic dash push button switches. They tend to break solder connections. My silverado has been doing it for the past couple years. Intermitently (sp?) the light will come on and after a restart it goes away. It hasn't bothered me enough yet to replace it. I was told on GM-trucks.com that you can take it apart and resolder the connections, but I couldn't get the stupid thing apart to do it, so I just put it back in.

2005 tahoe... panel works fine. it's problems in the computer. As long as it doesn't leave us stranded I can deal with little "gremlins"

I got mine done just last week too. Just in time it rurns out. I have a JD 112 from 1971, matches the truck I guess.

Board member Ilike72s made me some awesome buddy seat brackets... This are very well made out of 1/8" steel and fit perfect... Even my little buddy likes the buddy buckets...

THis was just a quick mockup but you get the idea...

Damn...I love those Buddy Buckets....I wish I could find a set out here....I almost bought an entire truck for $1,400 the other day just to get the seats....but I came to my senses...

Mike, I saw where you are worried a bit about fitting yourself in comfortably with that seat....Have you given any thought to doing that column shortening mod that I read about ?....I'm gonna look into it as the steering wheel is just to close for comfort for me....

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

THese are dodge buddy buckets even... but they are much nicer than a bench...

I will be installing the column closer than stock like the shortening thread shows... I might also drop these seat brackets 1" since i'm currently looking out the top 5" of the window (that's what happens when you're 6'3" and mostly torso!)

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Trying to decide to run the NOS bed wood that I have or to go with Red Oak and SS strips. My local amish cabinet guy can make a set for $330 and said that oak is pretty cheap right now...

What do you guys think? Options are
1. NOS black stained pine with SS or black PC strips/blts
2. Red Oak or Walnut with SS strips
3. Pine stained black with SS or black strips and sell the NOS stuff...

Either way i'lll get something done this week since i'm off till the 2nd...

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Got a little work done today...

John (sourkrout) and I went to the Junkyard on Saturday... besides it being a large skating rink we made out alright. I pulled a crank pulley from a 70's chevy in hopes that I could make something work on mine.. Well, it kinda works, with a little modifacation I made a quad pulley! I only need three but it willwork for now. With some spacers that Rackman sent me I was able to get it all lined up nicely...

Also found a few 67/68 steering wheels for $5 each! coudn't pass that up...

I pulled my van tilt apart (that was FUN?!?). I think I will be able to get it back together... they are fairly simple once you figure out how to dismantle it...

Then I spent tha majority of my afternoon cleaning up the workbenches...what a mess...

Glad those spacers helped out....Quick question, what is the deal with the double groove alternator pulley...what purpose does it serve!

BTW, I'd use the NOS bed wood if I were you....I think thats cool just knowing that it is indeed NOS....are any of the boards cracked?

Re: 68 K-10 SWB build thread - project Money Pit...pics galore!

Nope, no cracked boards. A few have some small spots or raised grain or stain but nothing big.

I could sell the wood for $400 but an oak set is gonna cost me $330 plus finishing.... or $200 for pine plus finishing so i'm not that far ahead.

I'm thinking the black with SS strips... and leave the NOS stickers that are on bottom... some are on top though...

As far as the pulley I don't know. It states that it had the 42 amp alternator so I assume that the double stuff was stock. But who knows.... The quad crank will just clear a fan though...

BTW I have a fan with clutch if you are looking for one.

I don't know if that the double groove pulley was stock...I've never seen one before on any of the stock trucks....I did a quick google search and they say they are used to ensure added retention at high RPMs

If you decide to go down to a single groove, then you could just use a double groove on the waterpump and a triple on the crank.....I have a single crank pulley that would probably work with that double crank pulley you just got....Let me know.....

Is that fan you have a 6 or 7 blade?....I found a six blade in a pile of old Camaro parts I have in the attic....but it has a cracked blade..I was thinking of welding it up but I was worried that it was wind up being out of balance...If yours is good....I'll take it...let me know what you need for it...

Let me see if the fan fits into the 4wd shroud. I bought it from a board member but it's 19.25" and seven blade I think...
