What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Loaded it up for a trip down to Savannah, Ga. to my friends shop. My son came up with his trailer to get it for me. It's going to be getting a new disk brake rear with posi, new leaf spring rear suspension, and a Street Demon carb installed.

It's HOT here. Our first 100 degree day this summer which is pretty unusual to come this late. Since it's been cooler that normal so far, today just felt incredibly hot. Not just me but everybody I talked to when I ran my errands this afternoon.

I got started early this morning. I was out in the shop at sun-up but didn't get the last coat on the hood until about 1:30 PM.

Weird. I cleaned the paint room really well to prepare it this time. Better than all the others. I hosed the floor, walls and even the ceiling off yesterday.
But, I got more dust today than any other paint session I've done. I don't know what the deal was. My filtration system didn't seem to do anything. I think I wouldn't have had any more dust if I had just sprayed without the good clean up and the garage door open. Even my wife (who usually thinks I'm too picky about things) agrees it's a lot of dust.
Anyway, it's OK as I can sand all the dust nibs off and polish. That is going to come much sooner than I figured though. Probably not long after the truck is entirely assembled on the outside. I'll do everything except the top and bed sides.
I saw the amount of dust so I put 4 coats on the hood instead of the 3 I've done on everything else.

Other than that everything went fairly well. I sure could have used extra slow reducer and hardener today instead of just slow. I had a little trouble keeping the wet look when passing the gun across the panels. I tried to get the last coat a little heavier to get it as wet as I could. (Didn't get any runs or sags so that is good.)
This will all be fine though as I will be buffing anyway because of the dust.

Sure glad I've got the big stuff all done. Only about a dozen odds and ends left to paint now. I didn't really want to be painting on this project during the hot summer but it just turned out that way.
I can say that before my next project I'm going to figure out a way to improve my make-shift spray booth as it's just not good enough the way it is. My mind is already working on it.

slck57, Every time I skim through the pictures posted and I come across a cab stripped down, my heart skips a beat.

The cabs are nearly identical after cleaning and blasting, and I have a quick flashback of mine about a year and a half ago. Then I realize it's not mine I'm looking at and I find comfort reminding myself that I'm past that stage now.

Keep up the hard work, it's worth it in the long run. Jim

Put some elbow grease into an old school back up light I got yesterday at a swap meet for $8. Allstate Brand, glass lense and good 50's American chrome came back. Cleaned up the electrical, rewired and works great. Just need to find a brighter bulb. Not shown is the rest of the bracket and mounting bolt. Also finished insulating the cab floor. You can also see one of the carpet templates, getting close to having the interior wrapped up.

Took a longer cruise yesterday. Left town on the northeast side drove around the countryside looking at the corn crops. Came back in on the southside of town. About 20 miles os fun.

It's called Fir Green and it's code is RAL-6009.

RAL is a standard color set.

Do a google search on "RAL Colors".
There's lots to choose from.

I wouldn't have selected that color for my truck at first but now that I have seen it I think it's going to look great. It has grown on me. I really like it and I'm looking forward to seeing it all together.

Here's how it looks now. Getting there. I hope to have it on the road by the end of next month. Sill a lot of little things left to do.

Ordered a box full of parts from on-line vendor. I was trying to figure out why the brake, tail lights and turn signals didn't work correctly and the RR tail light fell apart into multiple pieces when I went to take it apart. So I ordered new LED taillights, LED turn signals that mount to the bed holes and LED license plates lights, brackets, grommets and wire conduit. I figure I'll just cut out all the old screwed up mess and install all new. Good weekend project. Wish me luck!

carpet fitting. Did a template but found it was good for identifying problem points. Actual fitting is lots of tiny cuts.

Started on the power steering conversion...moved pretty quick and the conversion kit seems to be a very easy process so far. What they don't tell you is that when using the original column you will definitely need a bearing 1 5/8" OD with 3/4" ID. This is to be placed at the bottom of the original column so that the column doesn't wobble. Not hard to find online. Had to stop until we get one.

Top Left is before starting.

Top right...column and shaft cut. Steering box removed

Bottom Right, Grinding the shaft to accept the rag joint supplied in the kit

CCP make a column saver kit that has the bearing, might look at their instructions to see how it is secured.

Well phooey that would have been really nice. They should list that down by the kit itself !!! The kit instructions don't even mention it. CPP needs a lesson in "upsell" : ) Oh well. Done bought the bearing and it'll mount fine from what I can see.

But having shown you that, a tight fit bearing with properly installed set screws will work just a well.
