Re: Bowtie468's Extreme '68 BuildPage

Since I couldn't get much shop time today , I mainly concentrated on small items that could be completed in the limited amount of time I had . The first thing I attacked were the 2 support bars for the lower bedside in front of the tire . Since I raised the floor 3 inches , the factory bars would fall short . Before making a trip to pick up material for the job , I surveyed the material I had laying around in the shop . Came up with trying to use 3/8" stainless tubing with an .035 wall . It did the job and feels much stiffer than the factory bars .

Very nice! I may have to steal this idea myself. I don't have a raised floor but I like stainless. Thanks for sharing

Killer work Chris!

Hate to steer away from the truck but I'm curious. On your trailer.. Is it tube frame? If so did you drill and tap the frame to mount the toolbox or use self tapping screws? Your trailer looks a lot like ours.

Yes Nate , it's a tube frame . I drilled and tapped to mount the toolbox . For the winch, I built another plate that mounts under the floor and spans the width of the tubing running front to rear. About a 3' span if I remember correctly . That plate mounts to the winch plate and also to the frame tubing . Picture the steel floor being sandwiched between the upper and lower mount plates, then the lower plate being bolted to the frame rails . Drilled and tapped those also .

Chris -- How wide is your rear axle housing ? How much did you have to add to the inner bed wheel tubs? Thanks.

Re: Bowtie468's Extreme '68 BuildPage

20x12, 4" BS 31x16.. correct? Factory frame rail location I guess? Did you just flush up the inner edge of the wheel tubs to the outer face of the edge of the frame rail?

Thanks man. Your truck is incredible.

54 5/8" total width . This is the outside flange to outside flange on the brake rotor .

No I didn't just flush it up with frame edge . Just made them wide enough to fit the tires nicely inside .
