One step at a time!

Long over due update Here are the pics.

Engine mounts:

Trans mount with exhaust cut-out to keep the pipe up nice and tight:

Brackets bolted to trans (above rubber bushings) are flipped to gain more ground clearance. Need to get some allen-head bolts for them:

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Well, it's doubled 3/16 wall tube so 3/8" thick and 3" wide. I can stand on it without it bending. It bolts to the frame rails with 4 bolts per side (I've seen one sided trans mounts). The engine/trans will twist very little with the poly bushings I'm using in the engine mounts. The trans mount bushings are factory S2000 rubber and will be more compliant than the engine mounts.

...and finally, if I find the need to beef it up I know someone who can take care of it!

Nice work Mike.

As for the Oregon Smog rules, I am pretty sure it is based on the car and not the engine.

Hey...is that my angle grinder I see hiding in one of those pics

We have to pass the sniffer for some years (75-95 I think). Anything with obdII (OE) just gets a code scan. This car is already registered in Oregon so it won't require any additional inspection and is old enough to be smog exempt. In all reality the emissions from the Honda should be cleaner than the old mill.

Having 3 angle grinders was nice. I could see having 4. 1-wire, 2-grind, 3-cut, 4-flap ...That's what happens when you leave your stuff at the shop; I put it to use!

Thanks!

Engine/Trans are mounted! First, here's how the exhaust clearance worked out:

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Now there is a cylinder head where the heater is supposed to be. No heater then?

And that odd looking no-Rootes engine........I agree that it's stronger, more powerful, uses less petrol, less exhaust emissions, will go forever,......but exept that...

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...

Ya know it 's one thing to bring together a custom project like this and
quite another to fabricate it so that in the end it will end up looking
like it was factory built that way. This is going be just the coolest of cars,
Heck, it already is .

With as low as you set up the car and with as low as your Tahoe is, I'm wondering how you get them up over that "speed bump" getting into the shop. But, I'm sure you have a creative solution for that as well!

cant wait to see it go past those little japanese turboed sewingmachines
speaking of turbo's still think it would be a nice idea for this car maibe even a factory stock setup (i think these engines allso came with a turbo fitted )
