I've been thinking and pondering a bit on my fuel fill, after looking at the piece of pipe installed in the frame, I think I may not box the inside of the rail there, but use a doubler plate on the outside instead. A little more fab work for me, but I think it will be cleaner, just as strong, and it won't restrict my access to various bolts and wiring running through that area.

Re: New project! The "Red Herring"
Well, life happened. I'm transferring at work and that also means moving:
Only about 50 miles away from where I am now, but unfortunately the new place doesn't have a shop (yet ). So sadly, that means Red is going into storage for a bit. But, this is the first time Red has been on all fours more or less fully assembled, and I took the opportunity to snap a few "stance shots" - I am quite happy with the way things are working out! I'm already antsy to be working on it, so hopefully it won't be too long before I can get some shop space set up and go right back to wrenching!

Re: New project! The "Red Herring"
It's going to be moving in just a few doors down from Red - in fact I'm loading it up tonight to take it over there tomorrow. I'm hopefully I'll have space to work again before September.

Great work! That looked like a wiring nightmare. I think I'll stick to a carburetor and no computer. Hope to see you back at it soon!

Re: New project! The "Red Herring"
Hey all! Still no work on Red, I'm afraid. My new position at work takes up far more of my time than I would like, and I had a bunch of delays with the new shop building.
That said ... I've made my deposit and I've got a hard date for the building (steel kit) to be delivered in March!! With any luck I'll be back in the shop this summer

awesome! I am looking at buildings too (stick built) so I can get out of the driveway so I will pay attention. 32x52 is definitely a great size.

Yes, I made sure to leave room in the budget on this project for a lift and a new air compressor I hadn't thought of that, but I think I probably will do so! Once I get started, of course

Re: New project! The "Red Herring"
Red is home! Hopefully will find time to start figuring out where I left off in the next few weeks
Those of you who are also paying attention to the garage I was working on may notice this is most certainly not that garage. Long story short, the garage belongs to a friend (military and stationed out of the country) who's house I have been renting for over two years - but I just recently got married and have moved into a new place with an already finished garage. I will still be working on and using the other garage, it's about a half hour away. But, this new place means I can get back to trucks sooner!!

Re: New project! The "Red Herring"
Only a very small thing, but I did something on the truck and that's a big step up from the last two years.
Fitted the other tailgate latch Hoping to get some more shop play time in the coming weeks.

Re: New project! The "Red Herring"
Just a quick update, got a few hours this afternoon to play in the garage ... last few free days were taken up pulling the motor out of my Impala ... and started building a new trans cover. Got a ways to go, but it's a start!
