Re: Rods 57

Interesting. You've got my attention as I will be doing my own bedwood soon. Is this the color stain that Minwax sells? I know it comes in a variety of colors.

Or did you thin automotive paint and use as a stain? Also, because of the grain pattern i assume it is pine. Pine tends to absorb ordinary stain fast. So fast that it sometimes just look sopped. I've seen guys I use a pre-stain sealer did you do anything like that?

well so what i did was spray it black first, then sanded it down to show just the grain. i put a red stain on it after that. I am doing a stain only test next to see how that looks. the red looks good up to the paint but the grain is a bit much maybe.

The grain being so highlighted is exactly what I like about this approach. Not sure I could do it fo my build but I think it looks cool. I would like to see it done without the black paint. Please post photos when you try it!

This looks great! What wood is it? I was thinking of the same colors for my bed since my truck is black and red but wasn't sure if this technique would work on pine.

Here is the first one up to the bed color. I'm going with this one, just think it looks better.

Big step today. I put color on a few jams and some small parts to test out the paint. also final primer on the rest of the truck.

Nice progress! Do you know of a local paint booth for rent? Or is that your home shop?

Re: Rods 57

Like you said, the bed wood is "only pine". Try several variations to find what you like best. Heck, you could even do shorter sections on the same piece for more testing, and the back side too.

I got a few things done on the truck. I have not been focusing on it much this summer but i did get the exhaust on and painted. the driveline made and picked out the gauges for it.

Re: Rods 57

Put some time in on the truck this weekend. to much air pressure on one but it will buff out... a few more little pieces to do in Red then the cab gets finished in the cream color.
