Re: What did you do to your truck today!

5.00 dollar battery tray rebuild.

1- Early 90's bone yard battery tray.
2- Cut off lower bracket and small side tab.
3- Remove whats left of your old tray, in my case it took 15 minutes.
4- Line up new tray and mark location of holes.
5- Drill 4 - 1/4 holes on both sides of new tray.
6- Line up new tray, plug weld holes, flap wheel excess weld.
7- Paint.

I did not remove the tray brackets, it made it easier to remove the old rusted tray as well as keep everything square for the new tray. Total job time was about 35 minutes.

Happy wrenching!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I havent started my truck in about a year so i went out to let her run. Had to jump it, turned over a few times to get oil pressure up and then she fired right up. I shut her off to tighten header bolts that were falling out and then went to start her again but had to jump it. This time all I got was a partial rotation and a loud CLANG, then a turn and CLANG. Holy ****. So i think my starter somehow is no longer lined up right...

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Didn't do it today but with in the last week. I fired up the motor for the first time. Took a couple tries, for some reason my Brand new Wilson starter had to be tapped with a hammer to get it going. Then when i got that figured out my firing order was off by one so it was back firing.
Couple days later I took it out and drove it around in front of the house with out the bed or the front clip on it. Looked horrible but it drove !
As my Girl friend says "Good thing you have your old guy friends there to help you out during this project."

My son and I wet sanded my '67 and then put the '67 back in the garage. Then I helped tape and prep the cab and front clip.

We had a helper doing the tape work, my son's wife.

Post Re : What did you do to your truck Friday

Here it is ! .

Kinda grim looking I know but I'm pretty sure it'll be fine .

I took the head to a high end Metric Machine Shop my Son uses for his Import race cars & Subarus etc. , the old guy looked at the head & said " that's a Chevy " ~ I said right , I was told you can rebuild it , new hardened seats & bronze valve guides , he shrugged & said " why not ? " .

I got the new engine stand ($50) , it looks fairly tip over proof so as soon as I can borrow my son's engine hoist I'll chain it up and get the block on the stand .

My big brother is keen to see how this is done.....

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Looks like some water damage to me. Don't be surprised if you have a cracked head...or at the least its not flat at the mating surface and will need resurfacing. Just a guess tho....

Post Re : Water Damage

We'll see ~

The rust intake ports tend to indicate it was stored outside sans air cleaner (I knew this) , the sealing surface shows no sign of head gasket failure .

No worries , if it's bad , I'l fix it .

If it's junk I'll find more and fix that .......

What I paid for the whole kit 'N kaboodle is the value of the 292 intake and exhaust manifolds .

I got the fan to drive shaft on this one .

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Your right...possible entry thru intake.
Many, many years ago I was a HS senior (and later HS grad working thru comm. college) at an auto parts store back in the machine shop. Turning rotors and drums, pulling motors apart and tossing blocks/heads in the vat, beadblasting things clean, resurfacing flywheels and heads, pressing bearings and u-joints, facing and tipping valves, testing valve springs, installing new seats and guides in heads, or sometimes just knurling the valve guides instead of replacing, etc. etc.. I say this as day to day ops showed that majority of the big long 6 cyl heads we pulled apart were not always flat, and needed resurfacing...and a small percentage would have cracks between the valves.

Or at least 30+ years ago, that's the way I remember it!
Hopefully won't be the case for you tho and you'll have a good one.

Touched up some spots that were getting surface rust, installed driver side mirror, got all the turn signals working, and tore up the float adjustment gasket on my carburetor..
