Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Simply changed the speedo cable a couple weeks ago created a mess. Ended losing about 2 quarts of fluid in the driveway mostly in a pan at least. I guess the seal tore installing the new cable and I didn't realize it. Bought a new bullet but pulling the old one out most of the trans fluid drained out. Guess I'll just do a fluid change.

Took some doing, and it was a little unorthodox, but it's out.

replaced a number of worn steering/suspension parts with high-quality parts from Moog. It really makes a difference in the steering - things are a bit stiff - but hope it'll work it's way out in the next couple week. Aiming for a pothole here and there to help it along.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I don't like working in the garage with the doors closed, and we finally got some nice weather today, so prepping for blast & powder coat. They say no grease and no grease they get. I probably spent 5 hours cleaning this cross-member.
Put the frame on wheels. I imagine it will high center on and off the auto transport, but at least it's easier to lift this way. Worst case scenario I add a center "axle", but I probably won't. On a side, I read a shop describing how they spent 2000 hours on a full restoration. I'd like to know how they did that

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Some times when I go to the recycler in the summer the smell of all the beer cans is almost unbearable.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
That brings back memories. When I was 12 or so the neighbor kid and I got a deal with the local Elks that his mom managed. She would bring the cans home in her truck and we would get to smash them, turn them in and keep the cash. We smashed about hundred pounds a month. Then we take them down to the recycler on our bicycles. We did it for years. It got easier when we got our license's. But never realized the true benefit until years later when mom told me she never could tell if I had been drinking since I had smellled like beer for years.

Stale beer cans are the worst. Pop cans are sticky and summer time swarming with bees, just can't win.

It's been 30 years ago since I rebuilt a power box and now remember why. What a pain getting all 26 BB's back in the right way. I'm on try #8 now and took a break.

Back tracking a bit to Fri. I got the heads on and torqued. Also installed the lifters, rocker assemblies and set the valves. First pic using a thread chaser to clean out head bolt holes.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
So today I decided the engine had to be Chevy orange and I proceeded to prep and paint the thing with VHT engine enamel. Painted the water pump cast aluminum also. Stuck the intake on to get a look see and I can tell I'll be shopping for some more classy valve covers.
