Hey Jeff, had a good time talking with you guys too. Didn't realize we were about the last ones in the parking lot when we left!

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

This is my 88 R20 2wd 454tbi/th400 265,xxx miles.

This is day I brought her home

Put new fuel pump in cranked right up after sitting for 5 years. Cleaned her up

I decided since I can't afford paint job right now. Figured I'd plastidip it. Coming out pretty good.

Not bad for 18 bucks lol. 3 cans covered the bedsides an tailgate.

The plasti-dip looks good. How well does it cover areas where the clear coat has peeled and other imperfections?

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

If u look at it real close u can see the outline of the clear coat. But I only did one coat. I think another coat or two will hide the peeling clear coat pretty good.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Was going through some old pictures last night of my military days, and ran across this picture of a few Air Force Crew Cabs. This was on the Alaskan island of Shemya in 1992.

Each one of these had a AM/FM radio..... and no radio station for miles around!

Those look good! Do they rub the corner of the fender or back of the wheel well when you turn?

Yes. I trimmed the rear corner of the wheel arch and there is still some rubbing, occasionally. I need to look into the issue further, but it's not bad. Some hammering and maybe some more light trimming. There is also a little rub on the drag link at full right turn lock. I think I might do new front springs this spring and see if that helps, maybe add a zero rate and fresh body mounts, too.

HID Lights

I have a 84 GMC C1500, I want to put HID lights in, but the headlights I have you're unable to twist the light bulb out to replace it. Do I have to buy all new headlights to get the HID? Thanks!

I have the older style H2 rims on my 86 crew cab and have the same rubbing issue on the drag link on full right turn lock. Barely enough backspacing on those rims, but they do tuck in and fit nice!

Thanks, and yes it's ridiculously nice. It has a 2" diameter rust bubble in the paint on the rear door on the drivers side, and about a 4" bubble in the paint behind the drivers side rear wheel. Haven't seen any more rust. The guy I bought it from had only owned it for 3 months and didn't know any history on it. Wish I knew more about it.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

I'm new here but I thought I'd throw my truck in the mix. Started out as a 1973, was built into an off Road race truck in either 1981-82, then purchased by none other than Walker Evans for one of his clients who needed an off road class 8 truck built. Walker took the 73 and updated the cage and suspension, and also a newer grill/front fenders to the mid 80's. The truck raced in the SCORE/HDRA series in the 1980's and also a smaller Arizona series where it won a couple Championships under Bill Howard. The truck changed hands a couple times and now I'm the proud owner of this little piece of off road racing history.

Picture from the 1985 MINT 400 race......

Here is how it sits now....

Plan is to tear it down to the frame and restore her back to the original colors and get her back in racing form to compete in the NORRA Mexican 1000 vintage off road race held every May in Baja Mexico. This restoration will start after this years Mexican 1000 because i have a different project I'm finishing up.
