Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
The Goodguys shows have been so good that it is an automatic visit for me. Good car shows around Nashville are just very few & far between. There is one in January that I enjoy at the Fairgrounds that is also a must visit for me.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
You're welcome for the pictures. I've got to admit there is a ton of work done to most of them that makes me jealous. And ironically, I got behind a 4-door mid-60's Chevelle Malibu with a 3 on the tree on my way home. I watched the guy through the rear window.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Not today, but Sunday I got tired of looking at the sun burnt woodgrain trim on the driver side of my '72 and decided to replace it. The truck needs rockers and one cab corner, I hope to go ahead and fix this summer. I was putting off the trim change till then, but had a little time to kill. The thing is unrestored and I'm keeping it that way long as is practical. Right now it's "keep the old truck going" over a restoration, just as would be when it was 10 years old. The truck must have sat under a carport with the western side open to the late sun. Or, the sun is just kinder from the east earlier in the day. The Cheyenne Super K/20 and Highlander K/20 both had the same thing.
Started out like this: I had some refurbished mounting hardware and double stick tape on hand, so this little project cost virtually nuthin' It was ugly under the trim, so I took a cup brush to it, coarse sanded, down to fine wet sanding, then black prime and paint Just a small change, but mo' betta now

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
That could be frustrating. I wish I wasn't using it for work, but at least I get to drive it every day. Must have put a couple thousand miles on it this month. Been running all over. I did get to take a long long meandering through my old stompin' grounds ride home on Saturday. Just the way these trucks were meant to be driven. Down along the creek, over the stone bridges, past the old houses and farmland, over the gaps just chuggin' on along. Set my mind at ease to say the least

The only thing I did today was shove the key in the ignition, turn it to the right, crank up the stereo, and go for a nice long drive. Definitely relaxing! BTW, I have dual stereo amps. under the bucket seats, so I bolted dual toolboxes to my fenderwells, just in case of some kind of roadside emergency...and they've come in handy more than once. |

I rubbed all the contact surfaces of the ash tray with candle wax and now it slides great. I keep my stereo remote and gum in it as I quit smoking 3 years ago.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Replaced the u-joints in the rear driveshaft, rotated the tires, removed the remaining parts from the old dual saddletank setup (floorboard tank switch, extraneous fuel lines), and cleaned out the garage a bit.
Tomorrow, it's all about the ignition (coil/points/cap/rotor/wires/plugs) and associated adjustments. Then, since the grease gun is out, re-lube the rest of the chassis. And if time permits on Monday, shorten the steering column so my gut isn't constantly rubbing the steering wheel. I'm losing the garage in a few months (moving to a less expensive apartment), so I'm trying to do as much as I can to keep the beast a reliable daily driver.

Straightened an under-bed spare carrier, but more importantly removed the doors from the project for a stripped cab. With everything off it looks light. I think I'll skip the hoist and pull the cab four man power. Two old guys, my son and staunch nephew. That kid could lift the entire thing.

Underbed Spare Carrier
That's very nice ! .
I've only ever found one really nice one here, with all the hardware etc. and it was far from home and had a locked spare on it, I was too tired to go back the next day and grab it, still sad I didn't but Old Men are not Young men, knowhutImean ? . The whole dang truck was near perfect too : Grandpa's old long bed rig with a camper, donated as soon as he was in the ground I bet . So many nice cars in Junk Yards here directly from those rip off charity donation places . Maybe I'll find another one some day .

Incidentally, I realized I have to drop the aux. tank to install said in-bed carrier to factory......Ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaa!. Maybe not HAVE to, but close for sure. The tank is worthless anyway.

Yea, dad always wanted to know why my back tires were always bald on my muscle cars, I told him the rear must be out of alignment....

Parker her out side to admire while I probed the ground and dug holes tracing the sprinkler wire to locate the solenoids...what a pain...

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I battled with my interior today. Finally got around to installing the seat cover I got from grumpy. Had the door panels already hung, but just barely. I was trying to reinvent the wheel and not have any screws showing. And in the months they were just hanging and getting beaten about it warped them a little so I ended up using more screws than if I would have just done it correctly the first time.
Went to put in the three points belts and middle belt I purchased 11 months ago and there is either a fitment problem with the two center belts or Im an idiot ... Leaning towards the latter lol. Sorta cleaned and vacuumed out the cab when I got everything out. Let's see if pictures will download from my phone ...

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I moved mine around in the driveway. It may now get the garage space (but it's too long). At least I can get the windshield in the garage so I won't have to deal with dew on the windows. My new 4x4 won't fit in the garage & I just posted the yellow truck to CL.
