Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

No diagram. Just used a 4 wheel drive frame for a guide, measured everything several times & drilled holes as needed.
Has stock 2wd cross member with anything wider than the frame rails torched off & cleaned up. The cross member has the lower part torched off as well & it is only 1½-2 inches tall. If you want to run cross over steering a small part of the center forward most part will need trimmed. Removed stock body mount/rad support brackets & installed ones from a 4x4. On a 1 ton there is a sliver of the frame that must be cut off to allow the shackle to swing. On the rear I removed all 2wd brackets & installed 4wd ones.
Really easy, have done several now

Nekkidhillbilly, didn't you say "Basically if you can use a drill and find a used 4wd, it will work". Lol . Just messing with ya. There is no diagram. Like he said, lots of measuring and minor trimming on frame in spots. If you pm me an email address, I'll send ya some detailed pics on what I did on my conversion.

well yes but id like to have something on which holes needed. the next one i build is going to be duramax and im going to use a ford axle to keep the allison and tc in tact. mine will be a mix match or parts rather than direct swap off a 4x4 to a 2wd. if that makes sense. ive been around swapped half tons so i know it wouldnt be hard. truck will be a total frame off and will be another year before i undergo this. just getting ducks in a row. also i meant that toward the guy like it wasnt impossible to do as some ppl where acting like in his. i know your busting my chops though i appreciate it.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Hey guys, brand new member here from NW Ohio. I love these old trucks! Really wanting to own a CCSB soon. Does anybody know where I can look for one that has most of the hard labor done? I'll be honest, I'm not mechanic but I can do most of the cosmetic work. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. I am a motivated buyer!

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

http://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/4348805500.html

Here is one for sale that has most of the work done, it just needs completely assembled. Everything is there, just a lot of labor in putting it back together. The engine is/was being taken out for a swap, so I cannot hear it run before a purchase which scares me somewhat. Any ideas from guys with experience?

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Way to much money....and the 60 is gone. For that money and work you'd be better off finding a running stock truck and pay someone to shorten the frame for you in my opinion. A lot of work to be done especially when someone else has disassembled it already.

Nightmare. Worth $800-1000 tops!

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Devillusion,

Thanks for confirming what I was already thinking! I called the guy on it and he thinks it's in great shape but needs a whole list of work done... Plus it saves me a 7 hour trip to TN just to look at it. I'd love to find a project truck to start working on. I've got cabin fever and am ready to build something this spring.

Yes, 2wd. I plan on adding a limited slip and some better tires for next winter. I also own a 4x4 version of this which I use for actual work truck stuff. I don't plan on taking this one off pavement.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

If anyone needs a truck (or classic car ) looked at in or around the Nashville area let me know. I would be glad to do it too help a fellow enthusiast out, no problem. I've owned several and definitely know what too look for. Yes the ccsb on Craig's is a hack job missing the only thing (d60) that would make it worth a 1/3 of what he's asking. Same owner I think owns a 72 burb he's been trying to sell on Craig's for couple years now. It's junk as well and wants an obsurd price. He thinks those butt-ugly red rock stars are gonna make it happen.

I called him Wednesday morning for more information on it and was really disappointed with it needing completely assembled. He told me to make an offer around $2300 or else he's swapping a LS 4.8 full drivetrain "making it a 7 or 8k dollar truck" I'm really glad I joined this forum to get some answers before I wasted time and money for that truck. Guess I'll keep looking for a CCSB...

P.S. He sold the rockstar rims!
