Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Picked up the flatbed surround C channels my buddy fabbed up (didn't pay a dime for them).
They look great! 12 guage 5"x1.5". Four 8 foot pieces. Need to pie cut at the corners, bend and weld the surround together. I am so stoked! Also, did some more wire wheeling on the frame. With a little luck, The frame, rear axle housing and trailing arms will be painted this weekend. Steven

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Unfortunately, my water heater burst so I spent most of the day cleaning up the mess and installing a new one.
But, I did get all of the suspension parts updated except the coils and installed the bushings. Here are a couple of pics: I really like the hammered look. Next up, painting the springs, rear frame half and rear end. Steven

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Well... I didn't make as much progress as I wanted to but I still got some things finished. I spent more time going back and forth to the parts house than anything else... O well, that's building cars/trucks I guess.
Anyway, I wire wheeled the whole crossmember, flattened the upper control arms and painted everything. I also replaced all the wheel bearings and seals, greased up all the grease points, put new rotors, calipers, and brake pads on. I also mounted the front bags and started on the rear brakes last night but I had a hard time finding the rear bearing seals and had to order them. They should be in tomorrow and I also dropped off the rear axles last Thursday to get drilled for 5 lug. Hopefully this week I can get the rear bags mounted and finish up the rear end and the rear brakes. If I can get all the finished I will be pretty happy because then I can load it up and take it over to my old mans house to start the body work and hopefully get it painted before it gets too cold outside. I also have to drop some parts off tonight to get blasted "hopefully it doesn't cost me a million bucks"... Last edited by zippeay; 09-17-2012 at 10:48 AM. Reason: forgot the pictures |

More body work.. I guess what they say is true.. You are finished with body work when you decide to stop working and put down some paint..

E911manager,
I agree. You can work yourself to death on it. I keep finding things I think need to be patched on my cab. Eventually, I will have to put down the sharpie and pick up the welder and get it done. Steven

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Today I replaced my heater fan. I'm going to be needing that soon! Also
figured out my door locks. Narrowed it down to one key that fits the ignition and both doors even though one of the handles isn't the original! |

Slid under the back of the truck and cleaned/polished the chrome rear end cover and the brake lines on the axle housing.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Coil spring clamp kit came in from Eckler's today. Only thing left to get for the rear suspension is shocks and bolts and stainless button heads for the diff cover.
Gettin' excited now! Steven

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Today I tackled the tank job I have been waiting to do; with some help from this forum I found out that my filler hose was cracked, I could feel it with my fingers. So, took out the tank and started the work (thanks to markeb01 for the trouble shooting suggestions).

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Compiled and cleaned a bunch of engine parts after a 3 year haitus things were scattered here and there. Short block's been together for about a year and now I'm just a timing chain and oil pump shaft away from having it ready to finish re-assembling. I hope to have engine finished and transmission ready to go on my off days next week...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Drove 'ol blue to church in the evening and as I got home I pulled up to the garage door and thought I would see if I had high beams,I knew I had low beams ... Turned out I had NO beams .. so I started checking it out, had power out of the dimmer on both sides when tested high and low .. so checked at the 2 wire bulkhead by the horn and had nothing .. got out my small sandblaster with the spot nozzle on it and blasted the corrosion off the terminals at the firewall and dimmer .. finally got them working and noticed the wire was hot to the dimmer switch ... Checked the bulbs and sure enough they were halogen ...lucky when I installed the relay for the radiator fan I installed a row of 3 from an 88 sierra .. So I had 2 spares .. so I figured it was time to do some wiring since I had already run the grounds and power for the relays it was a 10 minute job ...........
