Re: What did you do to your truck today?

my son and I fabbed up the upright channel pieces for the core support and welded them on. I dropped off the lower channelwiht my friend for him to fab. I just have to replace a fan in a laptop for him.

What would the compression issues be if any?
They could use any year, even the 64 cc heads as long as they are matched valve size and compression, the 400 motors were all 8.5 compression at the piston with 25 cc dished pistons so they have a lot to pick from. The 400 heads had a chamber volume of 75 or 76, this was done for the truck motors for better low end torque.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

First chance I've had in a while to do more than dream about it done!
Installed PS box & front axle from '78 K10. Disc brakes, and a bit higher gears (3:90 to 3:73) still gotta install the rear to match. Glad I did the work with no sheetmetal on the front and no engine!
Pulled all the driveshafts to replace the u-joints, since I had a rare opportunity on a lift. Realized the 4-speed shifter wont move.....if someting's wrong with the trans, it's history.....really want OD anyway.
Next up, PB booster and all new lines.

Found a very cool grille in the junkyard Saturday...C60 cab headed for the crusher pretty quick....I've been planning to use something different....seems like you see a lot of the 65-66 aluminum (or that style, painted or chromed) , no matter what the truck is...I like that, and I have the dinged-up original alum, but wanted different. Have a grille I think is from a larger 63, has 2 round horizontal bars through the center opening, pretty cool, but I like this one better! (Sorry no pics, cant seem to locate my camera, and my old school $25 Wal-Mart phone is useless as a camera!) Truck is stock height 4x4, Suburban, painted bumpers and grille, will have a front winch also. Still a lot to do. If I can get this truck done right, my 04 Silverado 2500HD "warning light queen" will be GONE!!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Thanks! I have been working and painting on my interior all weekend. I am trying to get something accomplished. I used enamel and a small brush.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I sat rebuilt motor in frame utilizing new junkyard mounting system, didn't want to use the mounts that came in the truck. Used the old tranny so that I would only have to deal with one new task at a time. After the motor mounts are done, I will move the crossmember for the freshly built 2004R. I wanted overdrive since my Nova only gets about 8 mpg. Warn me of any issues I may run into.

TOO COOL!
A rocket powered truck!
I for one love it and it is a direct bolt in....
Did you use the Olds mounts out of a late 70's truck?

I used the bracket from a suburban and frame pads from a 75 Olds 442. The engine is a 403 bored 30 over due to broken rings when I got. Had to drill holes for everthing, could not find any 350 diesel mounts around here. They crush the old stuff quick.
PS; my trucks name is Frankie due to the Frankenstein effort to complete, I noticed your LWB sig.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Nothing physically done but last week I made mine my DD. Sold my 2003 Audi A6 Avant just in time for my wife to get laid off. Now we can't get a loan to buy anything for me to drive so I'll be sweating in my truck this summer. As Curly from the Three Stooges would say "I was a victim of soycumstance".

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I removed all my brakes to replace, had to order shoes, cut one coil off the front springs.I also removed rear cover to replace leaking axle seals, figured I might as well do bearings while I'm there.I hope to have it all back together this weekend.Still need to order drop springs for rear wanted to do front, then measure.Trying to get it roadworthy for now.

Gas pedal had been sticking and found that the throttle shaft was loose. Replaced throttle body and adjusted TPS, much better.
