I am following this Thread. I am leaning towards Porterbuilt for my 72 Blazer.

Re: Porterbuilt Dropmember
My '57 front and rear version is supposed to be done today. Considering my truck is completely torn down, at least this will be progress when installed on the frame. I should be able to test it out in a year or so.

Re: Porterbuilt Dropmember
Thanks, I'm doing frame up, so it will be a while or more than a while before it will be done. Have to start somewhere, and the Porterbuilt stuff was the logical starting point. I've go things budgeted out for the next year at least. I bought the truck with no bed, and it turns out the previous owner decided to use the front clip from a '55 or'56. I thought it was just the grill and hood that was different. Turns out the only parts that compatible are the inner fenders and core support. That's going to set me back a ways. Turns out the only parts we are using will be the cab and frame.
Anyone close to Northern Arizona need a nice front clip for a '55 or '56? |

Re: Porterbuilt Dropmember
The 73-87 frame rail is about 3/4" taller at the crossmember than the 63-72 frames. It is the same width, but the inner frame support brackets will be too tall.

Quote:
This has no affect when using an oem crossmember, since there is no inner frame support.

Re: Porterbuilt Dropmember
Not only the front crossmember, but the trailing arm crossmember has the same inserts. So that wouldn't fit either.

Re: Porterbuilt Dropmember
Nate, I also have a question about your LS Motor Mounts. Is is possible to run a series of holes together so that the engine could be moved forward or backward in small increments? The holes that I am talking about would be just like the series of holes you now use on your trailing arm crossmembers. Here is a link to a picture in case I am not making any sense.
