Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Dale!
now comes the fun one...engine for the crew dually came from the '70 impala, but it had a 4-spd, so changed it to a turbo, altered the pan to look like a 700 basic cab together, roof did'nt go together worth a darn, had to add in some styrene. rough long box together, will hang the dually fenders then finish it up... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
do it Dale!
biggest & best money pit i ever started, lifting my crew.... all week at work, temps were in the hi 70's, low 80's, fryin' in the heat. come the weekend, 2 days of rain.......figures, but got some good bench time on the crew bunch of box work. put a bulkhead on the front, cause the box on these kits never lines up with the cab the 84 gmc is one of my fav kits, & not crazy about the revell truck kits, but revell does have some nicer parts. the wheel tubs are nicer, upper box is the stock amt, lower box is amt with revell wheel tubs instead. surprisingly the tubs were the exact same size, even though the revell is 1/24 not crazy about the amt tailgate either, no handle & i'm also converting this one to a chevy revell tailgate, proper indent and a handle. had to narrow it, trim some off the bottom, and sand the body line down lower to match.....cause it's a 1/24 gate..... fenders just were'nt looking right, checked them against my green dually from last yr, crap, also 1/24, so i narrowed them both ways |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
got a tub started. impala rear seat, and el camino buckets
oh yeah, cant forget, one of these ... body is getting there. cab needs pillars, drips, & roof ribs. got one dually fender ready to go on, need to fit the pass one still, & add fender braces. cab lines up pretty decent with the box now.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
you know it, gots to have that visor
flattened out the floor in the tub (put 2 amt gmc's together & you will see....) fixed the trans tunnel so it looks more normal now, & got the frame stretched. unfortunately by the time i cut out one of the tanks, what was left was not saveable, wanted to do dual tanks (dual batts, dual exhaust, it is a dually...) mite figure something out still a couple minor touch-ups and a good sand and call it done. susp time now.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Man, it's looking awesome.Great job as usual. Side note.....I started the new job today. I spent the day smelling beer and was anxious to get home to drink one. Bad part is we're doing 7 days a week until further notice...

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
good on the job Dale! little rough working hrs though...
smell beer....? sounds like a FINE place to work crew body is painted & started detailing it, still needs some clear. "body drop" is tonite, should have it done in a day or two. while waiting for junk to dry, contemplating the next build. got 3 diff trucks to pick from. have the stepper left, but i think i will combine it with an old build USA-1 truck into a longbox crew, dont have one of them in the fleet yet, and kinda outgrew the monster thing... also got this 20 yr old '50 chevy build that i want to put on boggers... |

hmmm, liking this much better, spare stepper box.. and this looks kick-arse big change for me, all stock, right down to the six'er. mild amount of lift & i wish S.U. would hurry up & get them 7.5 x 16 luggers in production, they be perfect for this one... |

Thanks, new job is very different than I'm used to but I'm enjoying it. I'm voting on the 60 stepper. The dually is looking great.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Dale!
to me the hardest & most frikin' tedious thing was making a billet grille, then it never showed up in any pics soooo.....just because... and i joined the unemployed club too Dale. after working with this guy for almost 30 yrs, had a disagreement monday. end of story there. super glad i've got an excellent reputation in the industry, first place i called, the place i was hoping to go to, was like yup, come on down. was weird driving a truck yesterday with different signs on it....was only unemployed one day, but it was not a good feeling.... got a couple things done on my unemployment day- just could'nt get into it, but did get some frame work done. the 4x4 frame is pretty much strait, and this 2wd one is not. cut out the trailing arm stuff & "a" arms at first i was going to replace the front half of the frame, but i would lose the solid mounts for body to frame, and would have to cut & rework the inner fenders. so i cut the frame almost off the floor pan & straitened the rails. i like it better this way cause the frame rails were riding right down the edges of the box looking goofy. fill the gaps on the floor, add a few crossmembers and i think it will do |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
i like how i got some space between the frame rails & the sides of the box now. and i cut out the bed floor. my son found a broken wood glider, so i'm going to recycle it into a bed floor
also got a start on the 235. still needs this & that.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
I'm definitely gonna keep my eye on this 60! My dad had a 60 stepside when I was in my teens. 283 with a 3 on the tree! Maybe scratch a step bumper for the rear.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Dale, Dieselburb!
yeah, i'm glad it was too, 'specially after buying the wife's ring, some tires.... UNEMPLOYMENT SUCKS!! working sucks, but i'd rather have that... and cant say i've ever seen a step on a stepper dieselburb (excepting the 88's up) i do have a couple step bumpers in the stash, i'll haft to hold one up when i get the fenders back on, see what it looks like. now that you mention it, a step would prob look better on a 4x4 anyway |
