Re: 1968 Chevrolet SWB Stepside Restomod

Hey all;
I finished up the Fuel pump wiring today.

I took advantage of the stock +12v accessory block.

I'm very happy with how it turned out it looks like it was that way from the factory.

Wiring at the tank.

Hey all;
Today I designed a mounting bracket for the battery tray.
Tomorrow I will fabricate it, paint it and get it installed.

Hey all;
I got a late start today so I only got the bracket fabricated and painted, it's hanging to dry right now.
I will instal it tomorrow.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet SWB Stepside Restomod

Hey all;
Today I did a test fit on the battery tray, I knew I was going to have problems with the angle of the radiator bracket on the core support and to find out just how much compensation was needed I had to bolt it in.
It decided to storm today so tomorrow I will drill a hole in the radiator bracket and get a spacer the right length to put in there to make up the difference.
Despite the angle problem the bracket I fabricated seems to be plenty strong enough to do the job.

As you can see the angle is way off at the mounting point.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet SWB Stepside Restomod

Hey all;
This morning I got an early start and fixed the radiator bracket angle issue.
I used a nut as a spacer, the simplest solution is sometimes the right one.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet SWB Stepside Restomod

The case of the missing jackstand.
I went out early this morning to drill the new holes for the transmission crossmember and couldn't find the second jackstand and after 30 min of looking for it I gave up.
I guess work is halted untill I can either find it or get new jackstands.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet SWB Stepside Restomod

Missing jackstand found.
It turns out I didn't need to drill new holes in the frame for the transmission crossmember, I just needed to flip the mount around to gain the extra little bit of room to get the bolts holes to line up.
Monday I will measure for driveshaft length and take it in to get shortened.

It was where all lost things are that get found, in the last place you look.
Naw but seriously though, I dropped it down behind a ladder and completely forgot I did it, out of sight out of mind, you know how that goes.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet SWB Stepside Restomod

Hey all;
I got the driveshaft installed.
4x4 Land cut it 1/4" too short, apparently they don't know how to read a tape measure but I will live with it considering I doubt very seriously they are going to make me a new driveshaft over 1/4" heh.

1/4" too short.

1/4" is quite a bit, I expect it to come back exactly how I ordered it, maybe I could have tollerated 1/8" but 1/4" is just too much.
Granted I only have about 315 horse but the input shaft is under quite a bit of stress even when it's done correctly.

Re: 1968 Chevrolet SWB Stepside Restomod

Hey all;
I found out the weatherpack connector for a 2001 camaro electric fan is different then the one on the 2003 silverado so I need to hunt down a harness or at the very least some correct weatherpack connectors.

Things on the punch list for this week.
1) Wire up the electrical at the ignition switch.
2) Connect the coolant hoses/overflow and fill up the engine coolant.
3) Purchase and instal a battery.
4) Modify the electronic throttle assembly.
5) Instal and hook up the brake/cruise switch.
6) Wire up the cruise control.

Here's a link for the ls1 fan connectors. There's quite a few others there also but they are on page 1
