Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Finally I got a good foil pac of caulking and boy does that stuff flow out nice. It is 3M 08360, worth every penny and best part is they say it can be painted in 30min. My wife got home from work tonight about 7pm and that gave me a chance to head out to the shop and get started. My son has been sick the past week so I have been lucky enough to play house Dad but as we all know that cuts way into the shop time but thats fine. So I got things caulked and have already put on the fog coat of white on the roof. I am headed back out now for the first wet coat. I will be done about 1am and I will try and get a pic if I am still awake
![]() EDIT: Ok I needed somthing to do between the first wet coat and the second so I took a few pic's. First two are just the tack coat and the third is the first wet coat. This paint coverage is great and I think it will only need one more good wet coat if I don't get any dust in the paint. If I get dust then it will get a light third so I can cut it down later and polish it up as needed. Well 50min to go before the next blast! Kevin LFD inc. Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Damn Kevin, your a machine when a project needs work. I am now scribbling out my previous notes about your last 2 3M product failures and adding this new stuff to my ever growing list of products or materials to use that actually work on the trucks. Your motivation working on these is making it tough for my truck to still be outside waiting its turn in the garage.
Looking good I might add.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
It's white finally! Now I can get the doors, hood, fenders, cowl and glove box door ready for paint maybe on Sunday if all goes well. I have to see if this is dry enough to put plastic over it and push it out in the rain on Saturday, oh wait it's already Saturday

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Thanks but it has nothing to do with being a quick job. It is flawless once you get past the dust, shelve's (runs), orange peel and what ever else makes it not perfect
![]() ![]() Yeh you and the rest of us (my son, wife and the mouse in my pocket)! Thanks guys it has been alot of fun I just hope I can get enough time in the next week or two to get it finished up. Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
That looks great Kevin. I was up till about 2 am myself doing bodywork on the Suburban, that joker is huge! I'm soooooo glad I bought all new sheetmetal for the front. Hopefully I'll be able to just scuff and paint that those parts. Anyway, can't wait to see it all back together, I need the motivation to get the Burb finished.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!
Hey Kevin,
First off, thanks for going through the trouble of posting all your hard work and experience for us mortals. You save us all alot of trouble. I'm working on a DD myself and was curious what you have set up for ventilation in your make-shift booth? Box fans? I'm impressed with the lack of dust. Thanks Jay. |

Just the plastic covers along side the intake. Thay will be the blue body color. Well looks like I will be out in the shop tonight again untill the early AM getting the doors and stuff ready for paint. My Mom could not make it up to baby sit due to bad weather and my wife is on a dead line so she had to work this weekend. I might be able to shoot the doors and stuff on Sunday. Kevin LFD inc. |
