Wow! First time I've come across this build. Your metal work is just ridiculous. Possible relative of ebfabman I think. Great creativity and imagination ill be following from here on out. I'm nervous about a little rust repair. I better just dive in and figure it out as I go.

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5

Got a little something done on the truck today. I needed to make a bracket to tie the bed frame to one of the bed supports. Here is the area I was working with.

The bottom piece is 1/8" plate which will accept a nut and bolt. The top is 1x2 .125 wall tubing which I wanted to put a threaded bung in. I picked these up from Summit. The have a lip on them which I cut off for this application.

Next step was to design a bracket. Here is what I came up with made out of 3/16 plate. The upper two holes are slotted to allow adjustability in the height of the bed for final fitment.

Next step was to drill some holes. If you guys dont have rotobroach's, GET SOME! They are one of those things that once you get them you will ask yourself how you lived without them. They cut like butter. Leave the bimetal hole-saws for wood!

For this job, I used the largest size in my kit which was .75 inch...same diameter as the threaded bungs.

OK, next step was to weld in the bungs. I had to figure out a way to make sure the bungs were welded in perfectly straight and square. So I came up with this little tool...a simple steel plate with some a hole for a nut and two more to expose an area to put a couple tack welds. The plate is clamped to the work surface to hold everything tight.

Here it is clamped in place and ready for a couple tacks. Notice the chamfer on both the bung and the hole...and little vasoline for anti-spatter.

Tacked and then tool removed and tacks ground smooth.

AND THE MONEY SHOTS! Enjoy...let me know what you think.

Re: Project: Bad Bagged '68.5

Looks goo, I like your idea on this.

Personnally, I would reshape the angle iron bracket it bolts to so that it "hides" behind the outter bracket.
