Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

Great looking build. I to like the HHR taillights better. I really like the meld of the AD body to the Envoy frame, and am waiting (like a lot of others on this forum) to see this one in paint! I am in the early stage of doing the same thing to a TF truck, and one of my goals is to reduce some of the "fat" of the TF roof. I like the way you pancaked the roof. From the pictures in Post 451, it looks like your bodyman trimmed around the edges and then expanded the sides of the roof section and welded it up. Is that how he did it? Any additional pictures or insite would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

Since the 1 1/2 inches was taken out of the part that was the 'rise', when the top came down, it sat almost perfectly to the body.
And you are using an Envoy?

I'm using a Trailblazer ext frame/body to meld to a Task Force pickup. I plan to use as much of the trailblazer as I can. I'm in the process of extending the cab by 8 inches for more room, and since I have to address the roof anyway, I would like to take some of the height out of it. I've measured and measured, and it looks like the melding of the 55 cab will be very doable to the Trailblazer floorpan and firewall.

Your build rocks!

I think you're probably right as far as the width. I don't think you will have to be concerned about the width of the dash or the front track.

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

Looks amazing! I did a firewall/floor/all systems swap starting at the end of grad school and finally abandoned it a couple months ago, it was a 98 s10 under a 62 (then a 65) body. Everyone who told me it was a waste of time was just wrong. What a great swap.

here is/was mine.

first version, could not register as a 62 because I only had a bill of sale for the 62

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

Put the Burb on hold while I built the bus, daughter got married, remodeled the house....
But, it is on it's way again. Installed the rare mid body trim...

Your build looks great. Glad to see you back on this after the "Short Bus" detour (that also looks really good). I have never seen beltline trim like that, where in the world did you find it - or did you adapt it from a car?

I thought about a 'story' about the trim...nah! I took the finger guard that goes behind the door handles as my pattern. I had a young guy here in town build a jig and we used 18 gauge steel and spent a lot of time.
Considered stainless, but opted to use steel and then chrome plate it instead. I wanted something that looked like it could have been stock...but updated. My goal on the build was to build what I thought the HHR could have been in an all wheel or rear wheel midsize.

Re: 52 GMC Envoy Burb meld/build

My Hero!!! That is some killer trim, and I would hate to guess the amount of time it took. Does this mean the Burb will be two toned?

Hey youngrodder, no offense on the two tone. LOVE your truck and had that exact paint scheme picked out when I started the build...
I am actually going to have one piece replaced and will discuss that with the local young rodder

No offense taken at all. I like trucks off all shapes colors and styles like most people on this site. My 53 suburban will be one color (rust) if that makes you feel better.. ha ha

Yes. Using the heated seats, the console, the rear fold down seats, dual climate control dash, etc. It all bolts into the factory positions.
I plan to dye everything to match.
