Re: My version of the s10 swap
It has to be really gratifying to have her running.
After your recommendation I looked at some you tube videos as well to see how to clean the injectors. I'll probably use a combination of what I saw there.

Hey Blue, going back to post #252, what did you use to cut the hole for the filler neck grommet into the bedside?

Re: My version of the s10 swap
Looking great! Did you custom order your gauges from New Vintage. I got the same set through Summit when the were on sale but mine didn't come with the turn signals, high beam, and check engine light.

Kinda. I bought from Old Dog Street Rod or something like that, but I had already spoken with New Vintage so I'd arranged all the custom features. There was an extra artwork charge and then a small charge for the LED's they used. Hooked them up last weekend.

Re: My version of the s10 swap
I made some forward progress this weekend, but have to take a step back too. I've been waiting on nicer weather to be able to finish up my radiator support and this weekend was to be that weekend. I prepped a bunch of pieces and sprayed epoxy, then did some seam sealing, and then chassis black.
Here it is in epoxy with the seam sealer on it: In black: But...after 24 hours it all looks great EXCEPT where the paint is on top of the seam sealer, it isn't drying. I validated that the seam sealer (Lord Fusor 805) is OK to go on top of epoxy and can be painted in 30 minutes. I waited about 6 hours before top-coating it. I'm afraid now I have to dig it all back out and use some other brand of seam sealer, not happy about that. This impacts the radiator support and both inner fenders, so that'll be a good amount of work. Rather than deal with that frustration, I started in on filler work. I'm a complete newbie to filler, so I pretended like I knew what I was doing and dove in. I'm pretty happy with where it ended up, smoothed out the seams and some dips and is good enough for some chassis black at this point. Will have to wait for another nice weekend to spray epoxy over them and then chassis black....hopefully I'll have my seam sealer debacle straightened out by then.

Re: My version of the s10 swap
stuff is looking great, sux about the seam sealer. I'll def keep that in mind of not to do.
as for filler work, i'm no seasoned pro but have managed to do pretty good first few rounds. With body work, its like metal work. all about the highs and lows. easier to see with spraypaint or powders.

Even with the seam sealer problem your parts look good. I'm in the same boat with waiting for the right weather.

How many 55-59's would still have their eyebrows if they had proper inner fenders...... New seam sealer went on tonight after spending 2 nights digging the old out. We'll see how it turns out this time.

Re: My version of the s10 swap
I spent my free time this week digging out seam sealer....
I did manage to get it all out and replaced with a different brand, I hope to not have to do that again. So then to put a positive spin on the week, I had these mounted up today!

Re: My version of the s10 swap
I drove it today!
Last weekend I topped off the fluids and hooked up the cooling system. This weekend finished up a bunch of wiring, hooked up some grounds and double checked everything. Today I put the new wheels and tires on, started it up and pulled it out of the garage, down the driveway and turned around in the street. Worked great on it's first trip under it's own power. I let it idle in the driveway for a long while, cooling fan isn't turning on so I need to look into that. Big steps forward, getting very excited! Don't mind the junk in the back, that's what happens to anything that sits in my garage more than overnight! Received word from my body man that the fenders were painted yesterday. He ran out of clear so he didn't get the hood done, hopefully soon. More progress will come!

Congrats. Very exciting time. I hope you figure out the fan and get your fenders soon. My truck gets stuff piled on it too but it's all my stuff.

Re: My version of the s10 swap
been in those shoes a couple times. great feeling. I too end up using the bed as storage! as for the efan, simple checks first. The fuse, believe it or not I'v had the fuse be the issue before. Then if that is ok, I'd take the ground trigger wire off your sending unit and ground it out. That is what makes the fan kick on. Easy way to check if your sending unit aka grounding unit is working. If you ground that wire out and its not working, could be a relay wiring issue. I'd check your fan power wire to make sure that gets power when you have your sending unit wire grounded. I do highly doubt your fan isn't working, but if you have power to that wire then it could be the case. also make sure you have enough fluid in the system as those sending units will not kick on if fluid isn't on them.

Mirrors are mounted now. It is very satisfying to take parts out of boxes that were stored in the bed, install them, and throw the boxes in the recycle bin!

Re: My version of the s10 swap
Picked up some parts this weekend:
Looks much better, and much more like a truck! It's not as far along as it looks though, the fenders are on so I can finish up the mounting of the inner fenders and then pull them back out to finish and paint. Then they along with the rear fenders will get Raptor liner on the bottom of them, and then they will be ready to go back on for good. I also managed to get the rear window in and mirrors on.

Beautiful looking truck.
I don't know if I missed it or over looked it, but how did you get the front to sit so low? Did you use drop spindles? Thanks, Sean |
