That looks very nice, but I'm sorry, I had to laugh at the last sentence

Re: Yet another GMC build

Thanks, guys! I have the speaker pods in primer but haven’t decided whether to do vinyl or paint. Been so focused on paint haven’t really been working on interior.

Re: Yet another GMC build

Yeah, I noticed the dodge copycat thing too. Maybe they wanted them to look as good as possible when they are parked on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck, lol.

Re: Yet another GMC build

Funny mentioning this. I happened to see a Porche Cayenne yesterday that had some sort of dash item that looked just like early 50's Olds dash clock install. Round, blended into the top of the dash and all! What goes around comes around!

Re: Yet another GMC build

Been thinking of doing a spray in bed liner so I don’t have to be so picky about what goes in the back. Also want to coat the aluminum tool box so it blends into the truck better. I ordered an orange sample from Durabak and think the color looks close enough. Will probably pull that trigger after the bed is back on.

Foam, glue, vinyl, and staples. I’m officially 25 percent done with door panels.

Re: Yet another GMC build

I wrapped a speaker pod in vinyl. I used Morbern 4 way stretch from Sailrite. Not sure any other vinyl could have passed this test. Contact adhesive and stretch. Work out wrinkles and stretch. Stretch and staple. Then pull some more. Had to reactivate the glue in a couple spots with the heat gun. Then trim excess from the base with a razor blade.

Re: Yet another GMC build

looking good. I recently ordered the same 4 way from sailrite for my console. I'm hoping I can get it to stretch enough with all my curves.

Re: Yet another GMC build

This answer is probably back there somewhere, but what paint and color (satin black) did you use for the interior? Are you happy with the performance of the paint?

Summit Racing hot rod black, part number up312. I used it under the hood and also inside the cab. Lays down pretty well and easy to mix at 4:1 ratio.

Should have. Shot the frame in summit epoxy primer, then with Rustoleum semi gloss black. I mean, it’s covered, but the Rustoleum scratches pretty easy. That epoxy doesn’t budge. Since it’s a frame on a driver I can let it go…but so far if you bump the Summit black it stays put.

Re: Yet another GMC build

Wanted to get away from the billet grill look a little bit so shot the grills in semi gloss black, then used KP pigments hyper silver pearl in 4 coats of mid coat clear, then 2 coats of high solids clear. Was trying to match the pearl on the wheel spokes. Not 100 percent match but real real close.

Re: Yet another GMC build

2 coats Raptor bed liner with a fine foam roller, one coat Summit satin gloss urethane.

I tried to cover the dash in the Allsport viny. My vinyl dash experiment ended horribly. If I use this method i get the texture and a color matching my interior but no 5 hours of masking to respray the dash. I think I’m gonna go for it.

Would you feel comfortable shooting the whole truck in the Summit Hot Rod Black (if you liked that kind of look)? Orange peel or anything weird?

I think it would look ok. I don’t know if you could absolutely eliminate orange peel. Maybe reduce the final coat so it lays down real wet? Small parts you don’t really notice it but on something like a big flat door I think orange peel might be inevitable. The best plan might include wet sanding to 2000 grit to get it real flat, then going over the panels with 3M Trizact pads to 3000 or 5000 grit to bring back the semi gloss sheen. Just don’t know of any other way to get a whole truck perfect. But that’s just me. I’ve had real good luck with my Eastwood paint gun set but I’m still pretty green with paint. This is the only car I’ve ever painted so I’m sure a body shop veteran might have a different opinion.
